Can you please tell me what the name of this phenomenon is, when sweat causes what looks like silvery dust in the hair / on skin?
I’ve tried googling it - to find out how / why it arises - and all I get is advertisements for running clothes and information about using Botox to stop sweating.
As this is not strictly a thyroid post - I don’t think - I can delete it later.

The dust could result from a product build-up on your scalp - such accumulation happens when the styling products are not washed off clean even after what you presumed was thorough shampooing and conditioning. The build-up may include the residues of hair cleansers, as well!
What's interesting in our dry heat in Arizona (or other desert areas) sweat can evaporate so fast you may never feel "wet" or sweaty but you'll have a coating of minerals on your skin.
I found myself getting more summer colds in the U.S. than the U.K., because of the air conditioning systems everywhere, was my theory. Do you find that?
Yes - we especially tell visitors to drink a lot of water because when they feel thirsty they're already dehydrated. We keep humidifiers in our home — air conditioning does remove moisture from the air. A lot of homes use "swamp coolers" that run air through water soaked media for evaporative cooling, I much prefer that type but requires a lot of maintenance. Over time you acclimate. Arizona does age your skin unless you live like a hothouse flower.
I think it’s possibly salts too. I used to do a lot of running races and my vest would be saturated with it, like a white powdery stain. I used to drink a lot of water too cos I always felt parched. It stopped once I took thyroid hormones as did the terrible headaches after the race for the rest of the day and I am no longer as thirsty as back then. I could run a lot faster then tho!
