Hi, Happy new year to all
I am just wondering if you can have extreme weight loss with Hashimotos, under active thyroid?
My symptoms reflect the opposite to my diagnoses
Thank you
Niamh

Yes, significant minority of Hashimoto’s patients struggle to maintain weight or loose weight when inadequately treated
Especially if also coeliac or gluten intolerant
Looking at previous posts
Dire ferritin, B12 and low folate
Couldn’t see any vitamin D result
What vitamin supplements are you currently taking
Have you had testing for Pernicious Anaemia before starting B12 supplements/injections
Are you currently taking any vitamin B complex and vitamin D
When were vitamin levels last tested
How much NDT are you currently taking
Getting coeliac blood test done
Also testing for lactose intolerance m especially if coeliac/gluten intolerant
Working on improving low vitamin levels to OPTIMAL levels
Vitamin D at least around 80nmol and around 100nmol maybe better
Ferritin and folate at least half way through range
Serum B12 at least over 500
Are you vegetarian or vegan?
Thank you. I’ve been supplementing vit D and other nutrients for some time now . I had to stop the thyroid meds as I reacted badly to them. I’m starting a new dose next week so maybe things will improve then
Has endocrinologist tested cortisol and DHEA
Had short synathin test ?
Which brand of levothyroxine have you tried
Has endocrinologist tried liquid levothyroxine.
No I haven’t been tested for both of those .
The t3 wasn’t suiting me so I’m starting Thyreogland T4 next week and hoping for the best.
Also have liquid as back up .
Hey, I started the medication. Low dose of levothyroxine and my symptoms seem to be worse , especially my eyes and mood. I'm not sure if I should be taking medication when I feel much worse taking it.
Common to feel worse initially…..frequently takes at least 2-4 weeks to start to see any improvements
How much levothyroxine are you currently taking
Which brand of levothyroxine
Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after any dose change or brand change in levothyroxine
Important to regularly retest vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Optimal vitamin levels are important
