weight loss
Hi that does seem strange are u sure you are hypo and not hyper as hyper is the one where you loose the weight as your metabolism is faster so burns up more than normal whereas hypo is the other way which I have has for 20 yrs and I can't seem to lose the weight.
I'm sure someone on this site will be able to help you.
Good health
Tina
Hi Paul - that's encouraging for others (and you!) - I think that's what is supposed to happen if you are correctly medicated. Are you taking the same amount of Levo since you have lost weight 'tho - as now it may be a bit much perhaps? J
(any sudden weight loss should be reported to your GP)
hypo for tw years started on 50 mg then 100 .150 and last 6months been on 200 mg but am loosing weight but ive always been about 12 stone but now im 11 stone . but docs say im underactive .byt i feel hyper .at same time have four kids to look ather and keep u on ya toes lol cheers
If you're having hyper symptoms like palpitations, feeling hot & bothered etc. reducing your dose a bit should help.
(a rough guess for full replacement dose for 14st approx 200mcg, but everyone's different)
None of us are medically qualified here so you should really consult your GP. (I remember being thin when my 4 kids were littlle!) J
I was borderline hyper for several years and unable to lose weight until I was put onto carbimazole while waiting for surgery to remove my enlarged goitre. I still don't understand why I wasn't losing weight as I associate hyper with weight loss. Now post surgery I am gaining weight again which I'm not happy about.
Hi Paul, Make sure you have had re tests for TSH, T4 and Free t3, weight is mostly down to FT3, high or low, low makes you "fat". I would definitely go back to the GP, or better endo if seeing one. Always need to makes sure. To loose weight that quickly is either over treatment, wrong treatment or something entirely unconnected., you need to make sure.
Best wishes,
Jackie
Hi Paul, All thyroid drugs are very powerful and should be increased after blood tests, TSh, T4 and Free T3 is needed. Ask for tests again.Insist you want them more frequently until really stable and feel good. hard to tell between Hyper and Hypo as most of the symptoms often the same, even weight.
Best wishes,
Jackie
Paul, symptoms of under active can sometimes be the same as over active. You need tests now, TSH T4 and Free T3, to see what is happening. The thyroid changes all the time until stable and then has blips.Tested are really the only way to see what is happening. They are not everything, how you feel is important but they are very powerful drugs.

im not due for new blood tests untill august.had knee op cancelled 4 times due to levels not in range
Hi Again, Another thought. use the knee as a bargaining tool. it must be very bad for the surgeon to say that. Hypo stops healing and Hyper dangerous for a the heart. If the bloods are still out, insist on a referral to a good endo ,but research who you want to see first, it needs to be your choice, not the GP`s!

i dont think my gp verry well up on thyroid when i was diagnosed my prescriptin came throught the letter box one saturday morning with a note saying free meds for life so had to wait untill monday morning to see gp what this was all about
Gosh Paul, that will never do. Even the worse GP`s do the tests before increasing the meds, and any way normally every 6 months or worse case annually. You better get reading as GP`s often do not have a clue. At least now, plenty of info and blood tests available.Nothing when my problems started.
I would phone and say that you are having a problem with your thyroid and please may you be retested?I am sure they will then do one as so dangerous without, Costs?
Make sure you have a print out of the tests + ranges ( all different) the GP`s receptionist will sort that out for you Keep them.
Best wishes,
Jackie.
