Good evening everyone, can anyone recommend the use of Garcinia extract for weight loss?
I know I've said in the past that I'm fine dealing with it & it'll come off in time. I've lost all my confidence these last few months and it hasn't helped that my size has been remarked upon which has made things even worse.
Thank you for any help you can give π

Do you have regular broad spectrum blood panels run? Whilst weight gain/difficulty losing weight can be a aspect of thyroid disease, it can also be a symptom of insulin resistance.
Insulin resistance doesn't necessarily indicate diabetes, although it is very often present in T2 diabetes. It can mean your wider metabolic processes (i.e., wider than thyroid issues) aren't working too efficiency.
Thanks for replying. I'll look into insulin resistance & also into wider metabolic processes since I just thought metabolism was just connected to thyroid issues, very interesting. Much appreciated MMaud.
Metabolic health is a spiders' web. The thyroid is a very important component, but high levels of circulating insulin and insulin resistance can also prove a bit of a key, for some people in weight gain.
Now that is interesting. Food for thought. I wouldn't mind but I'm eating the healthiest way I've ever eaten, argh well, nothing for it but to keep going. Thanks again.
The research doesn't back up the hyped marketing claims. Every few years a new magic bullet for weight loss appears. Green coffee extract was the thing for a while & countless others.
Bless you that's so kind, just PM me or normal post. particularly as my stress levels are such I'm having to talk to myself step by step to get things done. Thank you stress, a fine way to be treated.
Happy to share. You'll find many yummy recipes on these sites. Carbs are listed for each recipe. LC is sugar-free, gluten-free, grain-free, bean-free. LC is moderate protein & high fat (good fats). With the exception of peas, potatoes, beets, winter squash & carrots, vegetables are low carb. Meats have no carbs, but keep protein portions moderate. Too much protein, aside from being not healthy, causes weight gain. Stay away from low fat dairy. It has higher carbs than full fat. Any low fat processed food will have more. Milk isn't low carb. Cream & cheese have far less carbs. Dry wine has few carbs. Distilled alcohol has none. Beer has a lot of carbs. Guinness has less than most. Avoid artificial sweeteners. The recipes have zero carb, not artificial sugar subs.
I know how you feel. I gained 6 stone within 2 years after my thyroid removed. Nothing I did worked, I had always been slim, strong and very fit, so it was devastating. I started low carb 2 years ago, I have lost 5 stone, one more to go. Calorie counting doesn't work for me and tbh made me hungry and miserable. It's finding what works, I don't believe supplements, tablets or crash diets work. X
The ironic thing is I don't like or believe in fad/crash diets either but recently my confidence has taken a further battering to such an extent Its left me feeling so desperate.
Paula - I am a low carb (LC), then latterly gluten free eater.
I went LC beforre I had any thyroid issues, but only gluten-free sine advised by an Endo consultant.
I wear size 6 trousers/skirst/jeans, and a 6/8 on top. I'm only 160cm tall, so not, by any stretch a tall person, but on LC, I don't struggle to maintain my weight.
I would say, if you are struggling with your weight, and enjoy your foord, it's worth a whirl going LC for a while. Going gluten-free was more of a challenge, for me at least. That pesky gluten appears to be everywhere! On LC, you need not be hungry. Trust me.
I'm with you on that. I exercise and still can't seem to lose. This week I actually gained. I feel better than I have in a while, but this weight gain..ugh.
Hope you don't mind me asking - are you too heavy, or just think you are?
Some weight gain need not be harmful. I've gone from a bony (I'm big-boned) size 14 to a size 16, sometimes bordering on 18 - it depends on the manufacturer. I've given up on Lidl because their larger sizes are usually slightly longer and just as narrow as their medium sizes. Recently I took a risk and bought a pack of colourful vests marked as XL. They were only comfortably loose on me - nice to wear over a contrasting top perhaps. Surely XL is for at least a size 20?!
What I'm getting at is that a woman can be just as attractive in largish sizes as skinny. I'm told that many men like their women "Cuddly". In fact it was fashionable in the past (Was it the artist Titian who painted plump red-haired nudes?)
I know it's difficult to retrain your body image to being happy the size you are, but I suspect that, not losing weight, is the main key to regaining your confidence. I didn't enjoy going from too skinny to having a "Spare tyre", but as long as we feel well, or as well as we can with thyroid problems.
Renoir painted a lot of larger ladies. In my younger day, I wasn't allowed to model for life (nude) classes, only portrait (clothed), as I was not curvy enough and therefore too hard to draw!
When it comes to clothes shopping, if it fits and I feel comfortable on looking in the mirror then I'll get it.
I shy away from close fitting clothes these days. I've got a beautiful bat wing jumper in the sales and I like the look of it and can hide my body, so I'm happy about that.
There are some men out there who accept and love their partners regardless of size and are the better person for it. However as I have found out in the past, there are men who do not, leaving such a negative imprint on a once, confident girl, feel worthless.
I agree a woman can be beautiful regardless of size, I've just got to start believing it.
I'm not eating regularly at the moment due to stress and feeling sick, having to force myself to eat.
Thank you so much for your reply its been a real help to me.
I'm not convinced it works for weight loss, although it can reduce appetite (did for me), which is not the same thing. I believe eating actual garcinia instead of something else might result in weight loss, but I'm not convinced about the capsules. Better to make sure that your blood sugar, insulin and thyroid hormones are optimal
I've seen a good number of extracts and pretty legitimate weightloss excerciese on a vietnamese website about healthy habbits giamcandep.vn/. Just ckick translate button in your browser.
Paula101 , I know the feeling. When I first experienced the weight gain and bloating typically associated with hypothyroidism, a coworker couldn't stop remarking at the gain. I feel for you.
