Abnormal Thyroid Panel

All of a sudden my TSH has risen from 1.5 to 2.25. I know this is within normal range but I start getting hypo symptoms above 1.5 nearing 2.0. with my FT3 being at 4.0 (top being 4.2). I am having hypo symptoms but my FT3 is nearly at the top mark? I am on synthroid 50mcg. My doctor has upped it to 75 but I'm afraid my FT3 will go over the high mark. My FT4 is above the mid point but not too much. Any thoughts? I have been on and off thyroid meds over the last 7 years. Somehow it has adjusted back to normal at various times. thks

Looking at previous post you have EBV

Presumably you have autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto’s diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies

Essential to regularly retest vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Have you had coeliac blood test done, and you on strictly gluten free diet

Thanks for the reply. I eat very clean ..no sugar breads etc maybe 2 cheat meals a week. I take a healty amount of supplements. My Vit D is always high normal but I take a large dose. Nothing has changed except all of a sudden the hypo symptoms (slow metabolism, weight gain, insomnia etc) which I figured was going to be my thyroid. I have had weird Thyroid panel numbers before but they seem to normalize after a bit. I'm just a little hesitant on upping the dose with my FT3 so high? I know my TSH will come down.

What are thyroid antibodies results

Folate, ferritin and B12 need testing too

antibodies are generally either 1 or 2 back and forth. I have not had a folate, ferritin or B12 test in a long time but I actually take folate supplement and B12 as well for years.

I'm afraid my FT3 will go over the high mark.

It might, but there is no guarantee of that. Last year I switched from T3 only to a T4 and T3 combo. When I was titrating my T4 upwards I found that at a certain point my Free T4 would rise but my Free T3 actually dropped a bit. So, it isn't worth worrying about until you know you have something to worry about.

Your T4 dosage is extremely low. 50mcg Levothyroxine is just a starter dose for most people. How much T3 are you taking? And do you know the reference ranges for your results? Also, are your results Free T4 and Free T3, or Total T4 and Total T3?

50mcg Synthroid no T3

T4 (THYROXINE) 8.1 (4.5-10.5)FREE T4 (THYROXINE) 1.44 (0.80-1.90)

TSH, THIRD GENERATION 2.250 (0.400-4.100) (my normal TSH on this dose is 1.50)

FREE T3 4.0 (2.2-4.2) (my normal on this dose stays around 3.5)

I have had sudden issues in the past and now this happened like overnight. Same Hypo symptoms ...Insomnia, weight gain, slow metabolism, blurry vision ...anytime my TSH starts getting toward 2.0 I feel upping my dose to 75mcg Synthroid will probably bring my TSH down but might increase FT4 and FT3. I have been on and off Thyroid meds 3 times in the last 7 years. Meaning my thyroid has somehow normalized after meds for long periods of time. I have been on the Synthroid now for about 2 years. I know TSH is not the end all test but seems my body follows suit to that number. I have taken 75mcg Synthroid that lowered my TSH to about .8 without much else changing. Went back to 50 and have been normal up until a couple weeks ago. I have also been taking iodine drops.. not much. I see an Osteopath primarily who works with me on issues.

"have also been taking iodine drops.. not much. "

since when ?

Iodine has a very complicated relationship with thyroid function , ( i don't know much about it but others on here do , although opinions differ ) .. but you should make sure you understand what you're doing with it and why, before taking it .

On an off for a few years. My osteopath's idea not mine.
