Internal Trembling, tinnitus and Insomnia

Ive been on the quest for thyroid health the "Natural way" for 4-5 years now. Originally Diagnosed with Hashimotos. Naturthroid or Something made me go hyper and I was diagnosed with High Graves antibodies..... and then Thyroid eye disease. :-(, Histamine intolerance etc...

I did the AIP diet and Low histamine diet. I'm gluten-free, dairy-free, grain-free, sugar-free, etc... ( Now I'm basically healthy keto or paleo) but My FT3 and FT4 are still very low and won't convert.

I'm working with a functional doctor to get to the bottom of my symptoms and she put me on Tirosint 13.5 mcg. I DO feel better. But I still struggle with tinnitus and what I can only describe as "internal trembling with heart palpitations and insomnia" for more nights than I care for.

It seems I can feel it coming on after I eat. Like any carbs at all may trigger it. Sometimes Tinnitus screams in my ears and then quiets down a bit. I'm checking my blood sugar regularly since my AIC was a tad high and it's in the 85-95 range which seems to be ok right? .

I've attached my labs of 4 months ago. they were taken fasting with no biotin.

Very frustrated and wondering if anyone here struggles with this and what to do?

Hello, I too have internal tremors. I actually didn’t know how to describe the feeling until I read your description, which is perfect. I don’t get tinnitus as such, but I do get a low roaring in my ears. I have psoriasis so assumed it was that, or potentially early Menieres Disease which my mum had…

I’ve also read that thyroid and ear issues are linked. Autoimmune ear disease is commonly linked also.

TSH over 2 shows you are very under medicated

Standard starter dose of levothyroxine is 50mcg

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose increase

Dose levothyroxine is increased slowly upwards in 25mcg steps until TSH is ALWAYS under 2

Most people when adequately treated will be on something approx to 1.6mcg per kilo of your weight per day

Approx how much do you weigh in kilo

You have been left on too low a dose levothyroxine

Levothyroxine doesn’t top up failing thyroid…..it replaces it

Yes, ma'am thank you. I tried 50 mcg to start and I just about lost my mind. I got super nervous and jittery and my eyes started bothering me again ( twitching and watering) I will ask my doc if I can go up to 25 mcg to see if I tolerate it ok. I weigh 62 Kilo's. Thank you!

I finally connected the dots. I found that I have Histamine Intolerance and possible Mast Cell activation syndrome. I'm sad about another diagnosis ( Hashimotos and TED) But HAPPY to have found the culprit! All of my symptoms plus Vertigo, flushing, itchy skin, and rashes or hives.

Im On to a low histamine diet and some supplements recommended by my Functional doc. Praying it is resolved quickly. I'm already sleeping so much better!

I have had internal trembling in the past. For me it is related to my cortisol levels. Testing my cortisol with a 4-part saliva test several years ago showed that my cortisol was extremely high - three results were well over the range and and the other result was very high in range.

I have read posts by other people on the forum who have posted about internal trembling who have found that low cortisol has a similar effect on them.

The problem with cortisol is that there is a lot of overlap in the symptoms of having levels which are too high or too low. People will do a test and expect one result and actually get the other. So guessing is definitely not recommended.

Yes! I had a 4 point cortisol test and it came back as low. As well as low DHEA. I'm taking a 10 mg DHEA supplement.

These symptoms have started to settle down when I went on the KETO diet and started upping my healthy fat. However, it still happens occasionally. Strangely AFTER I EAT. Sometimes I blame it on Carbs but No matter what I eat it will flare up! The Tinnitus is still pretty constant, but I'm sleeping better most nights, so I'm making a little progress! Thank you for your input!

What is the solution for low cortisol then?

I was actually doing pretty good and sleeping through the night for about 2 weeks. I was still waking around 4 am, but was able to go back to sleep.

Then last night It suddenly started again. I could hear my heart pounding in my ears, tinnitus and felt the trembling. Almost like a pulsing inside my chest. Its like it knows when I shut the lights out! Its so unnerving. 😕

So, I started going down the list of things I ate for dinner, wondering if it could be a histamine response or a food intolerance? With so many people complaining of this type of issue.............Surely someone knows what the root cause of this could be and how to get it under control. 🤦‍♀️🙇‍♀️🤷‍♀️ Im doing another cortisol test this week. This crap is getting expensive! #PrayingForGodToHelp

JannSimpson,

I agree with humanbean, I have always put my internal vibrations down to cortisol issues. I used to feel as if I was plugged into a fridge!

The saliva stress test will not only show your cortisol levels but circadian patterns and this info is useful in ascertaining appropriate adrenal supports. If you are working with a functional doctor they will most likely be familiar with this anyway.

Thank you so much for the feedback. Yes, my Functional doc is trying hard to pinpoint what's happening and what's causing it! We found I had a parasite and some Candida issues so we're working on those. I was hoping that was the culprit! What was the solution for you?

I also suffer with internal trembling and I'm not sure if it's true tinitus but I hear my heartbeat in my head.

humanbean profile image
humanbean in reply toFoggyk

Hearing your heartbeat in your head is referred to as "pulsatile tinnitus". Other than knowing the name I have no idea what the causes and treatment are, sorry.

Im researching Histamine Intolerance and apparently low DAO (diamine oxidase) can cause Tinnitus. It also causes loads of Histamines to be released.
