No more letsgetchecked in Canada

Letsgetchecked tests are not available in Canada anymore. Does anybody know, by any chance, whether there is another option for private testing available in Canada. I know this is a forum for the UK but it doesn't hurt to try.

I'm not familiar with letsgetchecked but you can try blue horizon. From looking online I noticed they work with dynacare and I get my bloodwork done with them but have never used blue horizon myself. Honestly, its terrible to say but in the past when I was desperate, I've just added the tests I wanted to include on my requisition from appletree walk in clinic. The walk in docs never noticed because they see a dozen patients

Its terrible...lol but ppl do desperate things at desperate times plus I was younger. No excuse but I did it.

Also, if you're in Ontario, you can get a naturopath to order blood for you. Good luck in your quest. It's a pleasure to speak to another Canuck on the forum

I'm in Manitoba. But naturopath is definitely an option. I always felt that it is good to have a health team from different fields. I had found a great doc in Saskatoon but Manitoba Health was not cooperative so he had to discontinue his care for me. Talking about desperate. I was shuttling back and forth between Winnipeg and Saskatoon for a while. And when that had to end I was actually looking at moving to Saskatoon. I have a house here, friends and family. It would have been a major change in my life. So I'm still here in much ridiculed Winnipeg. Thanks for your advice, my fellow Canuck. It's a pleasure to meet you.

I applaud you for your efforts but also saddened to hear that you had to go through such lengths. I had to leave my city 40 min to get prescribed cytomel. I begged docs on and off for years to no avail before then.

I'm not sure what the regulations are in Manitoba because they just mentioned Ontario when I briefly looked online. Hopefully it's the same over there as well.

I do the same each time they give me a requisition. My endo reviews the results with me, but never mention the addition. I will just keep on doing it until he acknowledges it. We do what we have to do to survive!

My T3 is at the very edge of low range (or sometimes below). Manitoba is apparently known for not prescribing Cytomel (or testing for T3, for that matter) and generally being awful for people with thyroid issues. What can you do? Just muddle through. I'm glad you got your prescription. Does it help you to feel better?

It's really bizarre that they like to complicate the lives of so many. I guess its cost effective to not test plus many docs believe its unnecessary which is ridiculous to say the least.

As for me and cytomel, honestly I felt it was doing something when I first began. The issue was that I wasnt able to increase it at all. I couldn't increase the cytomel nor my synthroid. My heart would go haywire everytime. The last 12 weeks I went back on synthroid and that just pushed my free t3 below the range. So I went back yesterday to taking my old dose of synthroid and cytomel and I will try to work on my nutrients and adrenals. It's a never ending cycle it seems. A hamster life...lol

I’m in Ontario, Canada and I use a bunch of different doctors for various things (endo, gyno etc) and ask each to add on an extra test or 2. My naturopath is the best and will order whatever I want but I have to pay (worth it). My family dr is good too. It doesn’t see like we can order our own here though. I live on the US border and wonder if we can get bloodwork there like they do and use a U.S. address for results??

I know that letsgetchecked does not deliver to PO Boxes otherwise I would get one in the States but if you know somebody not far from you who is willing to receive and send your tests that would definitely be an option. Other than that I'm sure any doctor in the States will do any bloodwork you want. You're paying for it after all. But a Canadian naturopath will most likely do the same (because you're paying for it......but I think in some provinces you can claim naturopathic consults on your income tax).

Yes my naturopath is great and I’m covered up to $800/yr for a naturopath but after that I pay. I can blow through that quickly. I wasn’t sure if ordering in the USA myself would be cheaper. My sister lives close and in the USA so I could order. Thank you for the info! I will look into it.
