T3 in Canada

Hi! I live in Canada. My doctor said there is no such thing as T3 in Canada. Is that true? I am on 100mg of levothyroxine.

Plushbears,

Your doctor is wrong. Liothyronine (T3) is available on prescription in Canada. Several Canadian members have been prescribed T3.

Ask your GP to give Concordia a call since they are a Canadian company😂

The Canadian company makes it and is ripping off our nhs by 6000% apparently

Your doctor may not know the actual word is liothyronine (T3) as levothyroxine is T4.

It’s not true, your doctor doesn’t know enough about thyroid treatment.

Please change doctors immediately. Your doctor is an idiot. I live in Ontario Canada and am on T3 25 mcg. It is called Cytomel which is synthetic T3. It has changed my life. The doctor said it is expensive. It was 64 dollars for a 45 day supply. Cheap in comparison to T3 prices in the UK. Patients there are being ripped off by the Canadian drug company that produces it and have seen there costs increase by 6,000%.

The price of T3 is hideous! Why? My Greek friend just asked in her local pharmacy and there it is 1.20€ for 30 tablets! It's worth taking an annual holiday to Greece to stock up!

Very hard to find t3 in Greece now please don't give people false hope ..its not possible anymore there over counter

I apologise if that's the case, I had no idea that there was a problem, otherwise I wouldn't have posted. My friend bought some for me without prescription and had no difficulty, although she is Greek so that may have a bearing on it.

As she is Greek, I think you're right. A few months ago there were so many foreigners requesting Greek T3 that stocks were depleted and it was decided that a prescription should be required.

My cat just got diagnosed as hyperthyroid and is on some sort of carbazole (mezamazole?) and I noticed as I was paying the vet bill that it is just about the same price as my NDT, great!

However the cat's med came in a pen which you rotate for a little ooze of the medication which you put on your finger tip and then you rub it onto the inside of the cat's ear. So easy, nothing like my previous hyperthyroid cat who I had to give a pill to. But anyway, it's expensive.

Hi plushbears

T3 is selling as LIOTHYRONINE Cytomel in Canada (SK). Shoppers, COSTCO or any other pharmacy carries it (5 or 25 mcg).

Your doctor doesn't know about it? I would recommend you to look for a new doctor.

All the best,

S
