Hi all. I have been on here b4 and you guys have helped so much! My daughter is 12 and she has anxiety, ibs and fatigue amd joint/muscle aches. Since hypothyroid runs in my family i had them test her. Her tsh came back normal which we all know doesnt mean too much. I dont know the number right now. We have a dr appt coming up. Do you think i should ask for more than just tsh tested? Do you know optimal ranges for adolescent? I was having symptoms for 20 yrs before i was diagnosed. Prob took that long for my numbers to go above normal but i remember being 26 and having issues. I dont want my daughter to suffer like i have. Any ideas? Thank you

For full Thyroid evaluation she needs TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 too

Presumably you have Hashimoto’s?

Autoimmune disease often runs in families

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Ord’s thyroiditis)

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Blue Horizon Thyroid Premium Gold includes antibodies, cortisol and vitamins

They will test minors

If TPO or TG thyroid antibodies are high this is usually due to Hashimoto’s (commonly known in UK as autoimmune thyroid disease). Ord’s is autoimmune without goitre.

About 90% of all primary hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto’s. Low vitamin levels are particularly common with Hashimoto’s. Gluten intolerance is often a hidden issue too
