Interpreting results

Hi, I’ve had repeat blood test this week, showing elevated TSH with T4 and T3 results in range.

TSH results are 18.03 and 17.17. Range ref 0.35-4.94 ulU/ml

T4 result 10.5 Range ref 4.87-11.72 ug/dl

T3 result 0.7 Range ref 0.58-1.59 ng/ml

PTH result 41.2 Range ref 15-65 pg/ml

I’m seeing an endocrinologist but his English isn’t always the best! I’ve had a total thyroidectomy due to papillary cancer and had a couple of parathyroidectomies. And a non malignant brain tumour previously, meningioma.

Has anyone else experienced this or knows what this might mean? Many thanks

How much levothyroxine are you currently

And/or T3 / NDT

Was test done as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

When were vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 last tested

How do you feel?

I’m on 100mg levothyroxine. I did take it before the test since I didn’t realise that they were going to run these tests. I had eaten and had a drink beforehand. I wouldn’t normally take it before testing. The other 4 things were tested probably 2 years ago. The GP seems to want to rule out any pituitary or hypothalamus issues. I have pains in joints and bloating and brain fog but might just be age related.

So the T4 result is falsely high

High TSH, low Ft3……request 25mcg dose increase in levothyroxine

Retest in 6-8 weeks

Meanwhile test vitamin levels

Thanks for the input. I’ll ask them to check those tomorrow.

I have never seen those reference ranges for FT3 and FT4 before. Are you sure they refer to the free Ts, and not total T3 and T4?

I’ve quoted lab results but don’t think they are free Ts. I’ve shown T3 and T4 results. Thanks.
