I have a question for people who are taking Thyroid-S - did you notice a difference in performance? I am very interested in your experiences.

Do you mean the performance of the NDT or my own?

The performance of the NDT.

According to one supplier, Thyroid-S was reformulated a few years ago and has not worked as well since. However, posts here seem to contradict that. It may have been reformulated somehow, but I have not seen many if any posts about it working less well since (contrary to what happened to Armour where many people switched to another brand after its reformulation).

I take Thyroid S - did so before the shortage and since. No difference.

Supplier says it hasn’t been reformulated

For me, it's actually stronger. For the first time in 100 years I had to reduce my dosage. I am about to take another blood test to see if lower dosage is OK. It's been 3 months.

Interesting. For some time I have had a problem with the conversion - fT3 is equal to fT4, which I had no problem with before TS .. I take care of the level of iron, zinc and selenium, I eat high in calories, I do not know where to look for the cause of the problem.

in reply to magdas

NDT in itself is not responsible for conversion problems. People take NDT/T3 for poor conversion. What do you mean by "FT4 and FT3 are equal"?

Currently I have ft3 and ft4 at around 50%. Before that, I had no such problem. 4 weeks ago I increased the dose - this week I will do tests to see if it was the amount of grains.

Most important of all: how do you feel? What are your symptoms? What did your levels look like before Thyroid-S? Which drug did you take back then?

in reply to magdas

And what do you mean by "high in calories"?

Symptoms typical of hypothyroidism - for me they are depression, lack of energy, swelling - especially after physical activity. I have been taking TS for years - with temporary breaks (I tried other brands, but they did not work). The problems with the conversion started at the beginning of this year - I was changing the batch at that time, so I wondered if it was about any changes in the production of TS.I am an unusual case :) I am 170 cm and weigh 51 kg, in order to avoid hypothyroidism I need 5 grains of NDT. I eat about 2,700 kcal.

I managed to get hold of some Thyroid S when it came back onto the market and thought at first that it wasn't as potent as usual. On my usual dose of 1 & 1/2 grains my FT3 came in at 5 and FT4 was under range. On previous batches my FT3 & FT4 would be around 5.8 and 12 on average, I felt quite undermedicated, so increased by 1/4 grain, next test result showed FT3 at 7.2 so now overmedicated. I have dropped back to my previous dose and will retest in 8 weeks. Not sure what is going on. I still supplement Vit D, B12, Iron etc, not doing anything different.

Since Thyroid-S contains both T3 and T4, you cannot know what your T4 to T3 conversion is. That is only possible onT4 monotherapy. If Thyroid-S is not as potent as it used to to be (due to reformulation), taking slightly more should solve the problem. Your current FT3 and FT4 levels might be too low for you. I am not sure if you used to need 5 grains but no longer feel good on that dose? If Thyroid-S has been reformulated I am sure other members will comment as it seems many take it.

I was increasing NDT gradually, and unfortunately, the lower dose meant that I was in hypothyroidism.

There have been better and worse days since I raised the dose, so this week I will check out the test results.

Thank you and best regards.

I have just switched to Thyroid S from Armour, and I am not doing so well.Tired and aching, plus the bloating is back. Thyroid S contains lactose though, so possibly why because I am intolerant.

Yes, it seems really strong but also tastes terrible. Has anyone else noticed that? People described NP Thyroid as having a similar taste and it was less strong.

MagdaS,An update: I just started on a batch of Thyroid-S expiring in June 2022 (manufactured in June 2019) and it is definitely less potent than the previous batch. The new pills are also slightly brighter than the previous pills. So maybe this problem does not only concern new batches.

I just found out the price has increased again to 379 euros for 500 pills...unbelievable. Definitely not worth it, especially since the potency seems to vary from batch to batch. I am seriously considering switching to a synthetic T3+T4 combo.

What is the batch number, manufactured date and expiry date? Mine is TA21011, 30/01/21 and expiry date 30/01/24. I don't think they are working as well and I seem to be having an autoimmune reaction but not sure it's this. I contacted my supplier who supposedly contacted the manufacturer to ask if they had reformulated Thyroid S, but they claim they haven't.
