7 months ago I started with a ear pain and weeks late I got some swelling in my right side of the neck I feel like it’s in my SCM muscle and know the pain in both side my doctor thinks it my thyroid so he’s going to do an ultrasound but to be honest I don’t think it’s my thyroid anyone else???! The pain sometimes makes my ear hurt and my right eye feels like pressure when my right side it’s very swollen…

Hello & welcome to forum.

It’s virtually impossible to judge visually & externally. If thyroid is swelling or growing where it shouldn’t, ear, jaw pain is entirely possible. A scan is right step. If once side is more swollen than the other it can be more obvious there is an issue.

The thyroid is located the lower part of neck. If you put head back and swallow you can usually see it moving up and down if swollen. I have a large nodule one side so I can feel nodule with finger sitting on collar bone the other side you cant.

Do you have any other symptoms?

Has Doctor arranged a blood test to see what the thyroid function levels are? Get a hold of any results you have had.

There are some thyroid conditions which cause eye issues but having pressure feeling in one eye can be cause by many things strain / headache. Any other eye symptoms?

When it first started I went to the er and they did a cat scan and found nothing that was like 6 months ago after that it just got worse my right side it’s worse then my left side my dr did a blood test for thyroid and my levels were good.. so know he want a ultrasound. The pain sometimes runs down my right shoulder when my ear pain come if I move my jaw side to side it makes a noise this all happens when it’s swollen a lot also the symptoms start a week after I started birth control pill for the first time I stopped them a month ago because I thought that’s what caused all this but the symptoms are still there..

Can you get a copy of the results? A printed copy with lab ranges (ranges vary so important)

A full test might not have been completed & you be surprised what Is classed as “good”. Anything in range is acceptable but ranges are wide and if you are just within range it could indicate an issue your doctor has overlooked.

Basically, inflammmed Thyroid and loooots of pain in the neck due to the inflammation. It can last a couple of weeks or even months. 95% of people recover without any consequences. I was on the 5%. You should get a blood test and an eco. It's viral related.

Forgot to mention: ESR should be high, as well as PCR in De Quervain Thyroiditis.

Hi,

I can sympathize with you, I had ear pain and throat swelling for years before being diagnosed with thyroid problem. I am so grateful that I found this website as it explains so much. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on here and have been more helpful than any doctor. The key is blood tests and ranges, which , try going lactose free as I found that the reduction in mucus helped. I wish you well.

Thank you it really helps that I’m not the only one experiencing this kind of symptoms I hope that they can finally find what I have because I’am tired of doctors telling me it’s nothing
