PLEASE HELP: New UK resident from America and Need to know how to get 120 mg Armour Thyroid ASAP

My wife is from the UK and we have immigrated permanently to the UK from America. I’ve been on Armour Thyroid 120 mg(2 grains) since 2013. Have been doing wonderfully since then! I have my levels checked twice a year. It is took me ages to get an appointment with the GP at Jubilee surgery in Twickenham. They told me they cannot prescribe it as it is an unlicensed drug in the UK. I have another appointment on Thursday for them to refer me to an endocrinologist. I only have a week left of armour. What do I do? I have told them that I have allergic reactions to anything synthetic. PLEASE HELP!

RogmanUSA, Welcome to the UK and to our forum :)

You will need to do as many here in the UK do, which is to purchase your own desiccated thyroid medication from outside the UK. This is perfectly legal, but costly.

Forum rules don't allow posting of where to actually purchase from, but members can message you privately with this information.

When a private message is sent to you, there will be a little red alert on the 'Chat' icon (which looks like a paper aeroplane). You should also receive an email to tell you someone has messaged you.

It will take you far too long to wait for an appointment with an endo. I don't know about buying from abroad, however many of us are on Armour and get it in the UK. You will need a private prescription which you can get from a private doctor.

Go to this page to ask for the ThyroidUK list of private doctors

thyroiduk.org/about-thyroid...

These days you can make contact over the internet. You will need a doctor who is allowed to write prescriptions.

Then ThyroidUK have a list of pharmacies most of whom stock Armour.

thyroiduk.org/if-you-are-hy...

They will need to receive the prescription before they are allowed to dispense, but you can find out prices etc and whether they have it in stock. Beware of some who don't have it in stock but have to get it in before they send it to you - another delay.

You will find the ThyroidUK website helpful, it's at thyroiduk.org/

Good luck.
