Endo or GP for advice?

I have recently seen a different endo and had hoped that she would check Ferritin, Folate, B12 and Vit D. She has not. I was previously pestering my GP to get these in readiness for me seeing the endo and starting combi therapy. Now I will not speak with the endo for another 3 months, unless I contact her.

Any suggestions, please? Should I resume pestering the GP, or risk annoying the endo by trying to get back to her sooner. If I wait 3 months, my trial on T3 will be over before I can optimise the holy quartet (FFB12D).

Also, I now see that my Phosphate is only 13% up range, is this bad, and is it possibly linked to a problem with parathyroid, whatever that is? Magnesium was not tested.

Easiest option is to test privately

I agree with SlowDragon. Test privately, it will save all the angst and you many never get them all done on the NHS either with GP or endo anyway.

Cheapest way is as part of a thyroid/vitamin bundle, regardless of whether you need the thyroid tests.

Look at Medichecks Advanced Thyroid Function Test or Blue Horizon Thyroid Premium Gold.

Details of discounts can be found by clicking on the appropriate lab here:

Order the test, do it on a Monday or Tuesday and send sample back the same day, preferably by Royal Mail's Special Delivery Guaranteed Next Day by 1pm to avoid any delay with it reaching the lab. Do not request doctor's comments as this delays the results by 1-2 days. Post results and reference ranges on the forum for members to comment.

I too was also surprised that my Endo had no interest whatsoever in testing anything other than TSH, T3 and T4 both prior to consultation - and I had to request that they do that myself - and for our next meeting in October at the end of a 3 month trial with T3.GPs generally wouldn’t do another one if you had had one within 12 months. There seems to be a complete disconnect within the NHS treatment protocols for thyroid disorders in understanding the significance of other blood results.

If you have concerns then private testing is the only way of monitoring in the way that we want to - and are well advised to do on this group. Good luck with your trial.
