PEELING FEET

Has anyone had the whole under side of their feet peel? Both feet are peeling at the same time. Dry thick skin around the heels with deep fissures and also splits behind the 4th and 5th toes. No peeling under or between the toes. Whole under side of the foot is peeling. This is the second time for me. Thanks. Any ideas? I have my suspicions.

This is my blood

TSH <0.001

T4 7.0 range 10-22

T3 6.4 range 2.0-6.0

Last time my feet peeled this was my blood

TSH <0.001

T4 26 range 10-22 previously T4 11.0

T3 21.3 range 2.0-6.0 previously T3 12.3

Dry thick skin around the heels with deep fissures is a well-known hypo symptom. But, I don't know about the peeling.

I agree with you. Each time this peeling has happened my T4 has come from 7 or 11 in the range 10-22.

Your Ft4 is far too low

I 1000% agree. My levels right from diagnosis have been out of balance. My T3 to T4 is so high. If I get T4 in range T3 is still over by at least double the range limit. If I get T3 close to range then T4 goes under. I can’t win. Both those results I posted are my normal.

Yes! Not in a while but definitely has happened a couple of times. Never thought about it being a hypo symptom but it would make sense.

Got the thick skin round the heels but no peeling so far.

The peeling could be Athlete's Foot, but you should get it checked by your GP or a nurse.

Feet would itch like crazy if it was athletes foot .

There is no loss of skin between toes like athletes foot and no itching. I’ve had athletes foot before and this is not like that

Any rash, how does it feel? Any Soreness, burning or itchy? Are nails healthy?

Cracking between toes are a sign it’s more than just excessively dry skin.

I have had terrible thick, heel cracks in the past, but didn’t peel. I also have thin crepey skin of other parts of my feet from high strength eczema cream as a child.

Moisturising doesn’t always help a great deal at the thickened skin doesn’t absorb it well. You have to smooth it down first.

In past I used foot peel packs and various files & even bladed tools when very built up but I’m told not to use them now.

Now I use a foot exfoliator and old fashioned pumice stone on heels. 2 to 3 times a week in while in bath. Or soak feet especially.

Then every night good coat of balm type moisturiser. Lots of specialist type foot ones on market & cotton socks to help it absorb.

No rashes. No burning. The skin between the toes is fine. No itching. No red spots. Feet are just peeling. Heels are thickened skin with deep cracks. And the front part of the foot, the plantar part has a split as the skin is waxy and tight but also peeling. This is not athletes foot. I will moisturise them again. Thanks.

The thick skin is a nightmare I know as I have had it many times over the years. Mine never actually peel as such just dry skin flakes off.A chiropodist will help to safely remove the dry skin before it gets deep enough to crack causing the painful fissures you have. I also recommend soaking feet in Epsom salts and rubbing gently with a pumice to keep it at bay.

No GP will admit I this day an age it’s down to hypothyroidism. Years ago they happily sent us to the chiropodist and made sure we were not under medicated.

Yes my feet go through stages. At times they look like normal feet and then they have done this twice now. Heels have been thickened and with fissures but for the while foot to lose the skin just doesn’t normally happen. Thank you for your reply. I did appreciate that.

Hi NIKEGIRL

I had the horrible dry, cracked skin on heels. I tried everything but nothing worked. I gave up shortly before I got my levo increased to 150 and I noticed only a few weeks ago that I didn't have hideous troll feet any more. I used to have the dry papery skin on the sole as well! I never knew that was a symptom of hypo!!! No peeling but I imagine if your skin is dry, peeling might happen? I agree with whoever said Dr wouldn't take notice of that!! Mine took no notice when I told him I thought I was dying! If I'd complained about dry feet he'd have rolled about laughing!!!

I only dip in and out of this forum but when I do I learn something more about the condition. All these people with the same things can't all be wrong!

Hi. Thanks for your reply. Yes my Dr just prescribed a heavy emollient cream for my feet so that I would moisturise them. He never connected any thyroid levels to it. I do love your user name. Sorry your feet sound as bad as mine. I hide my feet because they are so ugly and not normal

dyshidrotic eczema causes feet to peel on palms and soles of feet, Google it to see if it matches. Boots own hard skin foot cream is amazing

I will look at that thank u for the suggestion. No it’s not that condition. I don’t have the blisters or any itching. This is just the thickened skin on the heels and deeps cracks on the heels and on the plantar section of the foot the skin is peeling off like scales and the skin is split as the skin is tight and kind of waxy. I do appreciate the thought though. Thank u kindly.
