Looking for some help please?

Hi all, I've 2 questions that I'm hoping for some help with.

(1) I was on T3 (50 mcg,)monotherapy for a year and doc now added 25mg of t4 with I started last night. So yesterday I started to feel a bit flushed and overheated while watching TV and then I had a mild nosebleed. I had only taken 15mcg in the morning and 15mcg in the afternoon when I felt overmedicated. So I didn't take my last dose. This usually results in me waking up colder than normal but my body temp was still normal this morning. Its now almost 2pm and I still haven't taken a morning dose and my body temp is still normal. I've also been monitoring my HR and blood pressure which are still in the normal range. Im reluctant to take a t3 dose until I feel the symptoms/signs of low thyroid as I always get nosebleeds when over medicated. Why did I go over,?

(2) Although I felt overmedicated/hot and flushed the skin has been peeling off my hands for a week and im fatigued on and off with some muscle weakness daily.

So confused 😕

Hi Nessynu, I am looking at your antibodies , and whilst the Tg antibodies are in range ( only just I might add ), your TPO antibodies are well over the top of the range, indicating that you have autoimmune thyroid disease, it might be that you are having an attack on your thyroid, these attacks can happen and the attack causes a dumping of the thyroid hormones into your bloodstream which can give you hyper like symptoms for a few days/weeks, which could be a possibility as you mention you get nosesbleeds when over medicated, so an attack on your thyroid would produce similar symptoms to over medication.

As your free T4 and T3 are not mega high at the moment you might find that if you measured them again they would have risen somewhat.

Are you gluten free ? Some people find that going gluten free benefits them if they have an autoimmune condition as gluten is a protein that can cause an autoimmune reaction in people other than coeliacs.

On diagnosis my Tg antibodies were in the 450's , when I changed to a strictly gluten free diet I brought them down to single figures and I have had no swings in my thyroid symptoms since being gluten free.

As you are taking mostly T3 one would expect your T4 to be low, is that why your doctor has added some levothyroxine ?

I doubt whether one tablet of 25mcg of T4 ( levo ) would cause a sudden reaction as levo is a storage hormone and it usually takes many weeks for it to build up in your body and become effective. Just out of interest, what brand of levo were you given, Teva is a brand many people do not get on with , because of the fillers used, it could be a reaction to them or be totally unrelated. :)

Thank you for responding knitwitty. I do have Hashimotos and my antibodies were in the thousands before I went gluten free. I am on the Aip diet over a year now but have to admit to eating gluten free junk food such as cakes and biscuits. I just remembered that I ate a packet of mint tic tacs yesterday and along with the nosebleed and feeling overmedicated I was also suffering with tummy pains and bloating in the evening. I never connected it but its a possibility as I haven't had bloating since going on AIP. My t4 is Mercury pharma eltroxin. Yes my doc thinks I might do better on combo t3/t4 so ill just have to wait it out. I still haven't taken any meds today as I still feel OK with normal temp hr and blood pressure which is unusual for me as im normally very fatigued if I miss a dose by an hour or so. Its a strange one.

Hi again, I have just checked the ingredients in Tic tacs and they do contain Maltodextrin , I thought that was something to avoid if GF but I'm not sure.I know my coeliac son reacts quite swiftly if he gets gluten by accident, so maybe they could be the culprit re your tummy pains.

Good luck getting sorted out, it's such a pain having hashimotos. :)
