Help with bloods please

Hello Everyone, I would be grateful if anyone could interpret my results please. I had an advanced thyroid function blood test. I am taking 150mcg levothyroxine (Almus) brand. However, I have not tolerated well and wasn’t taking the full amount when I had my bloods drawn. I’m feeling at my wits end! I am constantly excessive sweating which is embarrassing! I only make it through work and don’t socialise anymore because of it. My hair is falling out in hand fills and I hardly sleep! My GP is in the process of referring me to an endo again. I have been gluten and sugar free for the last few weeks. I’m reading Isabella Wentz ‘root cause’ and I’ve ordered selenium and zinc supplements as she recommends. I don’t recognise myself and I don’t know which direction to go in. NDT, private endo etc… I would really appreciate everyone’s thoughts. Thank you x

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Folate is very low

Strictly gluten free diet takes months for gut to recover

Obviously bloods should be tested after 6-8 weeks after constant unchanging dose levothyroxine

Waste of time testing if not been on steady dose

Suggest you take constant unchanging dose and brand of levothyroxine for 6-8 weeks and retest

Meanwhile look at improving low folate

Thank you for your reply. I’m really struggling when I’m on the higher dose. I’m sweating constantly like I have been in a shower all the time and the headaches are dreadful! Although I’m constantly tired I feel wired at bedtime and cannot sleep. I’m taking a high dose of vitamin D and I have ordered selenium and zinc after starting to read Isabella Wentz book. Would a folate supplement be folic acid? Sorry to ask so much but I’m really confused! My GP said my iron levels were too high when another set of bloods were taken and that I was borderline for haemochromatosis! Many thanks for your help

Ferritin is well within range

Has GP done full iron panel test then

Many Hashimoto’s patients have MTHFR gene variation and folate supplements are better than folic acid

Vitamin B complex often better as keeps all B vitamins in balance

in reply to SlowDragon

Thank you. I don’t think the GP did a full iron panel. He just fed back to me on the phone and said I should give blood to bring the levels down. This has been a couple of months ago, hence going for a Medichecks blood draw. I’ll get ordering the Bvitamin complex. Thank you

supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid) may be beneficial. This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help improve B12 levels too

Many Hashimoto’s patients have MTHFR gene variation and can have trouble processing folic acid.

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Thorne Basic B is an option that contain folate, but is large capsule. You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule

Igennus Super B is good quality and cheap vitamin B complex. Contains folate. Full dose is two tablets per day. Many/most people may only need one tablet per day. Certainly only start on one per day (or even half tablet per day for first couple of weeks)

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

Ferritin

Are you post menopause?

High ferritin more common after menopause

High ferritin also common with Hashimoto’s due to inflammation,

but your ferritin is within range so not sure what GP is on about

in reply to SlowDragon

I’m 47 so I think I’m peri menopausal at the moment. Although the GP says my hormone levels are fine. Really appreciate your advice 😊

My ferritin is around 300, almost certainly due to inflammation of Hashimoto’s (and post menopause)

My GP does annual full iron panel test to check iron levels are not high too and they are absolutely fine

Have you tried a different brand of Levo. It could be something in the fillers that’s causing you side effects?

in reply to Gingernut44

I haven’t Gingernut44. I’ve always taken Almus Accord. It will be worth having a chat with my Dr about this as I always have my prescription taken to Boots and just take the brand that they have always stocked. Thank you for your advice 😊

If your Doctor is the same as mine s/he won’t know there is any difference. Most of them think Levo is Levo so I wouldn’t bother talking to your Doctor, just ask at the pharmacy if they have a different brand, if not, try a different chemist. Mercury Pharma seems to be well tolerated although I didn’t get on with it or Almus/Northstar/Accord. I now take Wockhardt. It’s well worth a try.

Thank you so much for this Gingernut44. 😊
