les121,

You can take a thyroid glandular alongside levothyroxine.

This is what Dr Peatfield always advocated, saying it would make the T4 work/convert better.

What happened about your dire ferritin level confirming iron deficiency? No thyroid hormone replacement will work well with that sort of level.

Don't forget that if Thyrovanz contains any hormone, it will contain T4 as well as T3 and you will be increasing your FT4 level as well as your FT3 level. Why not just add T3 to your Levo if it's FT3 that's low? Do you have latest results since switching to Levo recently?

Still no iron medication!

Have you discussed with your GP that the results actually state iron deficiency?

Yes he seems to think levels will improve with a better TSH?

So what would he say to a patient who doesn't have hypothyroidism and has a Ferritin level of 18? You don't have to have an underactive thyroid to have iron deficiency.

Please see another doctor.

That GP's logic escapes me. Entirely.

We see so many here who have achieved major turnarounds of their TSH levels, even seeing TSH effectively suppressed, yet continuing to be iron deficient.

This happens even if their thyroid hormone levels (FT4 and FT3) recover.

The "take this to the ridiculous" of this would be to think about anyone who is hyperthyroid. Pretty much impossible for someone who is hyperthyroid ever to be iron deficient?

Members sometimes have to take quite high doses of iron supplements for months or years to raise their iron levels. And even then, some have to continue indefinitely taking at least some iron supplementation.

It is not as if you are only at the lower end of the scale - you have dropped off the bottom end.
