I’m being gaslit in every direction.

I have awful hypo symptoms but every doctor I see says “no action required”…. I just want to sleep my life away. So cold. So tired. I want an increase.

Please tell me if you see anything in these labs…

FT4: 1.4 (0.8-1.8)

FT3: 2.8 (2.3-4.2)

TT3: 82 (76-181)

TSH: 0.23 (0.27-4.6)

Same lab

FT4: 1.4 (0.8-1.8)

FT3: 3 (2.3-4.2)

TT3: 86 (76-181)

TSH: 1.2

Same lab again

FT4: 1.4 (0.8-1.8)

FT3: 2.8 (2.3-4.2)

TT3: 82 (76-181)

TSH: 0.34 (0.27-4.6)

Then at another lab:

FT4: 2 (0.9-1.8)

FT3: 2.78 (1.8-4.6)

TSH: 0.57 (0.27-4.6)

Then another lab

FT4: 1.76 (0.7-2.19)

FT3: 2.56 (2.77-5.27)

TSH: 0.47

Original lab:

FT4: 1.5 (0.8-1.8)

FT3: 2.7 (2.3-4.2)

T3: 89 (76-181)

TSH: 0.73 (0.27-4.6)

Original lab

FT4: 1.4 (0.8-1.8)

FT3: 2.6 (2.3-4.2)

TT3: 116 (76-181)

TSH: 0.66

Vit D: 23.8 (30-80)

Ferr: 25.9 (6.24-137)

3 months ago vitamin D and ferritin levels were too low

Aiming for vitamin D around 40ng/ml

Increasing iron rich foods in diet for low ferritin

Can’t see any B12 or folate results

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Ft3 is consistently too low

Looking at previous posts you are only taking 5mcg T3?

Suggest you add 5mcg as separate dose 8 hours later.

Or 2 separate doses 2.5mcg at equal 8 hour gaps

Isn’t FT4 kinda low too?

FT4: 1.4 (0.8-1.8)

FT3: 2.8 (2.3-4.2)

Ft4 is 60% through range

Ft3 only 27% through range

Helpful calculator for working out percentage through range

chorobytarczycy.eu/kalkulator

Many people find optimal results are both Ft4 and Ft3 approx 60% through range

all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

When on T3, day before test, split dose into three smaller doses roughly equal 8 hour intervals. Taking last dose T3 at roughly 8-12 hours before test

Only taking vit D

When were B12, folate last tested

How much vitamin D are you currently taking

Vitamin D should be tested twice year when supplementing

Meanbeannyc in reply to SlowDragon

50,000 iu(?)

Even when I take T3 meds, it doesn’t show up on my labs.

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to Meanbeannyc

Last 1/3rd of daily dose of T3 should be maximum 8-12 hours before test

Many people find it best to split T3 every day into 2, 3 or 4 smaller doses spread through the day

Meanbeannyc in reply to SlowDragon

So how do you take levo 24 hours before and cytomel 8-12 hours before? That sounds… difficult

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to Meanbeannyc

Assuming testing 9am Monday

You take last dose levothyroxine 9am Sunday

You split T3 day before…

(typically on levothyroxine plus T3 people are taking 10mcg- 20mcg per day)

If taking 10mcg per day

5mcg at 7am, 2.5mcg at 2pm and 9pm

If taking 15mcg per day

5mcg at 7am, 2pm and 9pm

If taking 20mcg per day

10mcg at 7am, 5mcg at 2pm and 9pm

Many people split this way everyday, not just on day before testing

As you are only taking 5mcg ….day before test

Suggest Taking 2.5mcg at 9am and 2.5mcg at 9pm

They only prescribe 5-10 here for poor conversion.

SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to Meanbeannyc

Where are you?

Only prescribing too little is hopeless…as almost any dose of T3 will significantly reduce or suppress TSH

The US

Well many leading thyroid specialists are based in USA

Many prescribe NDT or T3

I have no problem getting my hands on any meds. It’s just I never found any dose/doses to do anything. One endo put me on 100/15 and I raged out so bad I had to stop my T3. That’s when I upped the T4 to 112 and those have been my results for the past few months.

Did you try 15mcg as 3 x 5mcg doses split through the day

Meanbeannyc profile image
Meanbeannyc in reply to SlowDragon

I did

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to Meanbeannyc

Did you increase very slowly upwards.

Perhaps adding 2.5mcg at time

Waiting at least week or longer before increasing again

Meanbeannyc profile image
Meanbeannyc in reply to SlowDragon

I increased 5 every 6 weeks

Meanbeannyc in reply to SlowDragon

Nutripea1220 recommended Dr (name removed by admin) I have an appt with her next week.

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to Meanbeannyc

That’s high dose vitamin D

Retest after 8 weeks

Then likely to need ongoing maintenance dose vitamin D

Trial and error what suits each person.

Might be 1000iu per day …..or might need higher at 2000iu or 3000iu daily

Can you see a private specialist doctor? It's impossible and frustrating and crazy making to try and get run of the mill docs to understand. I saw a great doctor over zoom recently (Dr - she's on the thyroid uk list) and suddenly everything made sense and I feel so much better to let someone else take responsibility for figuring it all out! Good luck x

I’ve seen them all. They all say these labs are great.

pamelaegg in reply to Meanbeannyc

You mean you have seen all the doctors on the thyroid UK list? I had a doc on there who let me carry on upping levo until I felt better, so maybe try a different one. All my results came back 'normal' but the private doc said my T3 was way too low and the ratio between T3 and t4 is important. 1:3 I think she said.

What's you iron, ferritin and B12? Low on any of those has same kind of cold and tired symptoms as hypothyroid.

Meanbeannyc in reply to pamelaegg

I live in the US.

I’ve seen a bunch of doctors. No one wants me to change anything.

Meanbeannyc profile image
Meanbeannyc in reply to pamelaegg

In the us, when T3 is prescribed with T4, it’s in a 15:1 ratio. Not a 3-4:1
