This is one of those things where I think to myself "I'd love to say that to a doctor" but I know I never will because I'm frightened of getting my pain relief taken off me and of getting kicked out of the surgery and being forced to try and get taken on by one much further away.
If I told my GP exactly what I thought of him and the local Hospital that treated (or under treated) me for hyper to hypo, I would be banned from every surgery in the UK 🤭
That actually happened to me once, c. 1989. Chippy GPs really don't like women standing up for themselves. Luckily, I lived near the centre of a city at the time and had a choice of GPs, so I moved to a single-handed practice run by a fantastic Aussie doctor. I wouldn't be able to do the same now - just one group practice covering a vast, sparsely populated area.
In one of my responses on the female health questionnaire thingy I described a (male) GP as "that always-endearing combination of arrogance and ignorance"
If only….. then I read this ….
Docsplaining = A patronising way doctors have of talking to patients. Normally who know more than the doctor.
Docsplaining advice for patients?
The next time you hear the phrase “just a little prick with a needle” from a male doctor, simply nod vigorously in agreement.
🤣🤣
I used to love that phrase, unfortunately, they now say “just a little scratch”. How can sticking a needle into your arm be a scratch? I feel like saying “have you read a dictionary definition of a scratch” but so far have resisted 😊
Oh gingernut I feel better for reading your post about 'a little scratch', I'm always tempted to point out it's not a scratch as well, but perhaps they had too many agreeing with the "little prick" and had to find another word?
Oh I love that, just imagine the Doctors face 😂😂
I read through today’s themes - and I went straight to this one! Now that’s put a smile on my face. Just hope I can keep it there!Have a good day! And a good weekend, week, month, year on and on, Everyone - so we can keep smiling through it all - not just grin through bared teeth. And thank Heavens for this wonderful forum and those on it!
