Strange results

Hi all

I’ve had some strange results.

I’m on 150mcg T4 6 days a week and 100mcg 1 day a week. In addition I was taking 5mcg T3 once a day.

My results on this were:

TSH 0.09

FT3 5.7

FT4 18.3

I increased T3 by incorporating an additional dose of 2.5mcg at 2.30pm (after lunch), therefore total of 7.5mcg of T3 and no change to the T4 regimen.

Now I’m baffled (and so is my private Endo) at these results:

TSH 0.04

FT3 awaiting

FT4 23.8

Why on earth would FT4 jump 5.5 points despite no change in Thyroxine dosage?!

I know increasing T4 can raise T3 levels, but never the other way round.

Oh gosh, we are all unique aren't we. Maybe because it doesn't need to convert to T3 any more, but hasn't quite worked out what to do with itself yet.🥴 Hopefully somebody will have a proper answer for you.

Good theory, I thought any excess would be converted to Reverse T3.

Funnily enough a few months ago I was on 150mcg T4 (7 days a week) and 10mcg T3 daily. Yet my T4 was lower, 21.x.

I’ll get it Re-tested as it may be an anomaly.

I wonder if it is some kind of assay interference or issue with the test, given that it isn’t consistent with previous results. How are you feeling compared to other doses? Do you feel like fT4 has gone through the roof…? Not that I have any idea what that would feel like… But personally I think I have a bit more get up and go when fT4 is over 50% through range. I’ve not tried over range! I’m guessing your fT4 range is 12-22 or in the region?

I definitely don’t feel over medicated which is why the results were a surprise.

I’m repeating the tests later this week.

The other factor is the Covid jab? I’ve felt worse since having it, but don’t know if this can spike FT4 level.

COVID jab is an interesting idea, particularly given that the results are inconsistent with previous tests. Good idea to try again in any case!

Apparently there’s a few members on here who are part of a trial of thyroid patients who have had the jab. Need to find out more about this.

I don’t know about anybody else, but in summer my health and uptake of T4 seems better. Seasonal?

Mine has never had a seasonal trend in the past. Could your experience be related to lack of a Vit D? Do you supplement?

Do you have Hashimoto’s

Do you always get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription

Were all tests done as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Looking at previous post….you recently had vaccination….could be significant

Yes to Hashi but historically my T4 has been stable on stable dose.

Same brand and same testing protocol.

The Covid jab is the real big factor I agree as I’ve not felt well since having it, felt more lethargic and fatigued, sleep isn’t refreshing and brain fog is sadly back! Had the jab 30 May.

Then that’s perhaps most likely cause

Any evidence to back that up with? Would be interesting if there is indeed a study that can show real world evidence.

Endo doesn’t think vaccine can spike FT4 levels but agrees it can cause tiredness and inflammatory response.

No evidence that I know of

I believe some menders of this forum have been part of a trial for thyroid disease sufferers and tracking their Covid antibodies following the jab.
