Protect your teeth if using ACV with mother
Apple cider vinegar works very well for me.
Are you also gassy? If you are, cut out most carbs and reduce sugar. When I do this it all but eliminates the problem. But I find it too hard to stick to in my case because I'm broke and carbs (rice... potatoes etc) are cheap.
One theory is that due to slower metabolism food takes longer to transit through the gut and bowl meaning it stalls giving unhealthy bacteria (like candida) lots of time to feed on the sugars (which white carbs and certain fruits essentially are) in the process they give off excess gas which puts pressure on your stomach and diaphragm which builds up causing acid regurgitation. I am having a brain fog day so not really explaining well. But increasing stomach acid strength with acid vinegar, or acid tablets like HCI and taking enzymes help, and you definitely should be using them, but you also need to cut down on certain foods.
Research FodMap diet for a general idea. I don't advocate strict diets (I tend to think we're already vitamin and mineral deprived and need a full range of fruit and veg) unless you have financial means and great will power, but it's useful. Simply cutting down while incorporating the above supplements suggested by others will provide some relief.
I also think the Swiss Licorice Lozenges are good and licorice tea. The lozenges are good before bedtime. During acute attacks I take zantac for a couple of days which is put of production now so I can't suggest it, (I brought a lot from Ebay before they disappeared) I don't know what the equivalent is...but if you can avoid the gastro resistant drugs - all the 'oles' you should do so.
My GP prescribed Omeprazole which worked well for me BUT I have found that I no longer suffer from this horrid reflux since I became gluten free. I have Hashimotos and RA. I hope you soon find relief from acid reflux whichever route you take.
Kid regards.
This isn't a long term solution, but I found that chewing gum for half an hour after meals really helped me.
Well, I used to suffer badly with this - 1/2 lemon squeezed in a glass of warm water - does the trick + it's 'good' for you. Give it a go. GP 'rolling his eyes' at this... of course, the drugs on offer... not for me! Best of ☘️
You could take gaviscon (other brands are available) which puts a layer over the acid rather than the PPI drugs that reduce acid. I was on omeprazole for 2 years and it made me much worse. I have modified my diet by excluding trigger foods and just taking gaviscon when needed before bedtime and I also got myself a wedge to put under my pillow so I’m not lying completely flat. Good luck 😉
Chewing gum or gaviscon advanced. Worth trying a probiotic ; sorted me out. Occasionally get it still but not daily anymore.
Yogurt and 150 sit-ups a day. Never take levo or NDT (natural dedicated thyroid) on an empty stomach, always eat something
