T3 on Alternate days ??

Hi everyone,

Yes , I know this almost certainly goes against any few rules we may bow to, but HAS anyone, DOES anyone do this??

I take about 60 mcg t4 every day...that’s ok...I seem to need that...but the ADRENAL ISSUES ARE THE RECURRING PROBLEM....

as for so many I’m sure ..

I think of it like a raging beast on a chain at the door of wellness...every time you get somewhere near the right dose of things that you clearly need, as less than that does leaves you depleted...

this beast rages and snaps at you and once again you have to withdraw...

Yea,I take adrenal cortex in the form of Klaire labs capsules..times 2 daily ..

But overall I just can’t seem to tolerate what would be the right doses of ANYTHING THYROID.

There seem to be no endos to help, the GPS don’t understand it at all and aren’t equipped, so what’s a gal to do ?

So I’m wondering about taking the t3..ONLY 2.5 !! ..( well who knows maybe I really need more but that is still powerful for me) ..but ONLY EVERY OTHER DAY....

in order to stop this beast raging because it’s too much..

ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE OF THIS ?

No T3 needs to be taken every day.

If you are wanting information on adding low doses of T3 this is what Dr. Ken Blanchard advocates. His book is A Functional Approach to Hypothyroidism.

I liked his thinking and it fits with my ideas. However he uses slow release T3 which is not available to me so I am trying 3 x 2.5mcg spread over the day. Along with 2 x 50mcg doses of levo.

Ok THANKYOU, that’s helpful 😀

Dr Blanchard was very smart and understood how to dose with low dose T3 with higher dose T4. There is a member on our forum that was his patient. Dr Blanchard dosed patients with TT 2% T3 and 98% T4.His theory was that patients did not need high dose T3 to feel Optimal.

Oh ok .. who is that , may I ask ??

And did you imply that he recommends taking this t3 only alternate days ?

Dr Blanchard dosed patients with very low dose T3 1.5% T3 with 98%T4 for patients that had functioning thyroids.

in reply tojgelliss

What is a "functioning thyroid"? I find Dr. Blanchard´s statement to be too categorical. Some patients may do very well on that ratio, while others need less T4 and more T3. Saying that all thyroid patients need 98 % T4 and 2 % T3 is like saying all thyroid patients should be on 100 % T4 or NDT only...there simply is no size fits all. I´m sure Dr. B had success treating many patients, but also that others went elsewhere as his regimen did not agree with them. Those who recovered on his regimen were no doubt those who need mostly T4 with only a little T3.

If he was right, nobody would feel well on NDT for instance...but many do.

His approach requires patients to have optimal T4 to T3 conversion.

Dr Blanchard dosed by his 1.5 -2% T3 and 98%T4 for starters. I'm sure Dr B took into account how the patient was feeling. I did not meet Dr B by the time I wanted to see him unfortunately he passed on. But the way I understand he dosed patients by symptoms. Dr B was as I understand out of the box Dr. We need more Dr like he was. Many Dr's this day and age still will not dose patients with T3/NDT. Very Tragic.

I could not agree more! Nor did I meant to criticise you. I just wanted to convey that even doctors who think outside the box need to take into account we are all different...it´s not like all patiens on anything containing T3 need the same T3:T4 ratio.

You are so right. We are all so very different when it comes to our thyroid needs. Some of us do very well with T4 sole while others do great with T3 sole. While some us us do well with various combinations of T4 and T3/NDT . We have to respect others as well as our selfs which thyroid meds works the very best for our Optimal.Wish Dr's would respect our thyroid meds needs too. We depend on them for our thyroid meds scripts. And our well-being.

So true! Even the doctors who prescribe NDT tend to be too categorical and believe that NDT is best for everyone. It would seem those who thrive on it are those who need T4 and T3 in that very ratio, while it contains too much T4 for some and too much T3 for others. Also, I have yet to hear about a doctor in Europe who treats patients with T3 only (like Dr. Lowe). A truly good thyroid doctor is one who will prescribe whatever the patient feels best on.

Slow release T3 should also be an option. I´ve never heard of it prescribed in Europe, though.

Have you had any success on this regime??

I cannot get slow release lio so I have not tried what he advocates. I do agree with him that some of us only need a top up of T3.
