Pregabalin article

Had anyone seen the rather scary article about this drug in the paper this morning. I wrote a few weeks ago that I was prescribed Duloxetine by the consultant which made me instantly ill. A phone call to the gp brought a pack of Pregabalin to my door , no information or advice at all. I immediately dumped It in a drawer where it still resides . Pp

Thanks thats really interesting. What that article doesnt mention is that Lyrica (Pregabalin) was licensed in the USA for Fibromyalgia which opened the door to tens of thousands of inappropriate prescriptions, making most of the misdiagnosed patients there situation ten times worse. It didnt take long before Doctors here started jumping on the same band wagon and because thats a condition with no proper tests to diagnosis, many patients were dumped into that bucket and handed out these worthless prescriptions. They have ended up putting on weight and having their situations ten times worse until many of them realised they were wasting their prescriptions and money and stopped taking it.

I was given gabapentin last month for a neurological pain problem but one dose was enough to never take it again!

They are both horrible drugs!

Star13, I'm just glad I didn't start taking them. Hope you have found something else. P

Sometimes it is best to be cautious.

I read a study comparing Gabapentin with Topiramate which seemed to say that Topiramate was at least as good. As I’d taken that before without issues I asked to go back on it and so far sleep has improved but dose might not be enough for pain yet. It’s a work in progress!

I've heard of Gabapentin but not the other. I'm afraid to take anything now. Its not as if I can sit down and have a discussion with a G. P. They've all gone to ground at my surgery 🙄. Hope you get sorted Pp

Was it this article?

I was prescribed it for a short while for neuralgia—but it did nothing and after reading some other horror stories, took myself off it ASAP.

They’ve known for a while it can be really difficult to get off it... :(

Thanks Jazzw. Sounds like you had a lucky escape. If it hadn't been for H. U. I would have probably taken them. Pp

Capsicum cream. Sounds like something to do with pepper. Excuse my ignorance 🙄

Exactly what it is. Seems that the nerve triggering it does reduces the pain. Seems to work for some.
