All good as just somewhere within the range, are there any that are borderline or low or high in range? They don't necessarily have to be out of range to be a problem, certainly nutrients have optimal levels and, for example, someone with a B12 level in the 200s with a range of 180-700 could be very unwell.
Make sure he understands that thyroid levels being 'off ' can make you feel depressed anxious , all over the place and just plain awful.Your brain uses thyroid hormones , just like the rest of you , and if they go wonky , so does how you feel.
I know that understanding that doesn't really fix anything , but it helps if you can understand "it's not YOU losing the plot , it's the result of a real effect on your brain of hormone levels shifting around "
And while it's not yet clear what has caused his TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone)to be as high as 8 recently, you can bet that since it would probably be 'normally' sitting round 1 and staying pretty stable . the change from that to 8 then 6 and whatever it is at the test in 2 weeks will be at least partly responsible for how his head feels at the moment.
Tell him to hang in there until he gets the next test. And tell him to be forgiving of himself in the meantime . He's allowed to feel dreadful with TSH of 8, and i'm not surprised if he does.
It's not that the TSH itself makes you feel anything , but it's an important part of a very complex balancing system , and going up to 8 indicates that his levels of thyroid hormones have probably been going down then up .
But they were up when you did the private test , and TSH is a bit slow to react so maybe the 6 was still saying hormones are low even though they were higher that day.
Don't worry about trying to understand all that ... i'm just trying to say that unsettled hormones have an unsettling effect on how you feel psychologically as well as physically.
The fact that TSh is slow to react is part of the reason why diagnosing and treating thyroid problems is such a frustratingly tedious process , each time you change a dose you have to wait 6 weeks to get e true reading of TSH, but the fT4 /3 levels are right on the day.
And also the fact that Doctors don't explain a lot , and often minimise the effect of thyroid symptoms , this can leave you feeling like no one understands , or worse that they think you're just swinging the lead , and that too can make you feel dreadful and depressed.
I know how hard it is when your kids feel hopeless., so i really feel for you at the moment.
" 2 weeks is 'forever' to a young man, and '6 weeks' is a life sentence, but just get him through to the next blood test for now and see what it say's.
Thankyou so much for your answer ❤️❤️He said he feels like he’s losing the plot and going mental so heartbreaking.x my issue is they have now given him antidepressants because they are saying that he’s suffering with anxiety , he’s anxious because dosent know wots going on .x I can’t get to see a doctor so have now had to go private .🥲
At least I can tell him that how he is feeling is normal .x so thankyou ., x
