Weird spaced out feeling

Hi all. so, i went on holiday to Ayia Napa 26th-3rd july. when i was out there, i cought a cough and the doctor said it was a chest infection, gave me some medicines, and me for day time and one before bed. that night, i woke up in the middle of the night with this weird spaced out feeling. it was like i was high. this caused me to have a bit of a panic attack, blurred vision, dizziness and racing pulse. after i calmed down a few minutes later, the high feeling remained. after coming back, being on a course of Co-amoxiclav for a week and betahistine to control any potential dizzy spells, and one month later, i still have this weird brain fuzziness, like i’m high and not quite with it, although i can function. symptoms are:

Spaced out/high all the time

fatigue and weakness

i had tingling in the legs for a few days but this passed about three weeks ago.

tired eyes, want to be shut all the time. i strangely find relief by wearing sunglasses as i think this dials everything down slightly.

it’s also causing me a bit of depression and anxiety not being able to go out and enjoy this weather with all of my friends.

i also noticed one day it was 20 degrees and i was shivering!

however, the main and by far worst symptom for me is this high feeling out of it.

i had a blood test which came back normal apart from high RBC, hameoglovin and haemocrat? (spelling) which had noted *tell patient OK!*. doctor said to take it easy over the summer and see what happens.

is there a chance i have any thyroid issues, or is there anything else anyone can think of?

You may just have had a reaction to the medication itself. Usually a thyroid issue takes a long time before we are eventually diagnosed. This is an link and I hope it is a bit helpful:-

Have you had a reaction to it? I'd check with the doctor.

hi thanks for the reply, but the feeling started before i came back home for antibiotics. i took the actifed dry cough syrup before bed, that’s the only thing.

Ask the pharmacist who supplied the medication. If he/she cannot phone GP.

If you have a print-out of your blood test results with the ranges, put them on a new post if you don't have them today.

'Normal' to doctors isn't quite the same as a patient believes. For instance if we do have hypothyroidism diagnosed, we need a TSH of 1 and not within the 'normal' range.

I've had this after having Sudafed cough mixture over the course of a day. I ended up calling nhs 24. They sent out a doc and he said it was a pseudoephedrine which can stimulate the central nervous system. Causes too much adrenaline and results in some of the side effects you experienced.

yep, that’s what i found! actifed has ingredients that can cause the side affects i felt. i can’t understand why i still feel like it though. shall i call 111?

Not what you're looking for?
