I have recently started taking a supplement -MOOD ENHANCE- which claims to help with sleep, one of the ingredients is Soy Lecithin 50mg I know soy is not recommended for hypo sufferers and wonder if this (Soy Lecithin50 mg) would affect the thyroid?

Soy eaten in normal amount won't cause any problems to the thyroid. But having guarana in your pill might not help with sleeping because it's an energiser.

Thanks - did not know soy was an energiser!

No, soy is not an energiser, but guarana is.

I'm not saying believe this but my endo assures me that there is no evidence that any food interferes with thyroid meds. There is on here though a paper including list of foods shown to affect T3 and T3. As a vegan I have tried being completely soy free (for 2 years) then reintroducing it and noticed no worsening nor improvement whatever I ate. Likewise gluten even though I have Hashimoto's so I think perhaps these things are individual and that it may be trial and error to discover. Hope that's of some help

Thanks for this sensible reply, I'm sure most of us fuss too much re. food additives. We probably consume some without even knowing and don't suffer!

The percentages vary depending where you look, and all numbers are pretty anecdotal (based on self reporting) but something like 75% with hashimotos benefit from being gluten free, 45% benefit from being dairy free and 45% benefit from soya free. For the most part, I think tolerance can depend on the state of the gut.

Not what you're looking for?
