Hi I've just spoken to my consultant and he says rather than taking my 20mcg tablet of liothyronine cut in half that I should ask for it in 5mcg tablet form . Does anyone know if it's available/possible. I get on prescription . Thank you in advance

Hi. I currently take it. 2x5mcg twice a day.

I’ve had no problems with it at all. But I know we’re all different 😊. Has been great. x

Thank you for that I'll find out from my gp and pharmacy if I can get it. Glad you are doing well on it .

Which brand of T3 do you currently take?

5mcg tablets are more expensive (over all)

How much are you currently taking a day?

Morningside Healthcare per box 28 tablets

20mcg tablets are currently £136

10mcg tablets are £148

Hi I currently take Mercury Pharma 20mcg tablet . I have to cut in half which is a nightmare . Also consultant said be best to get the correct dose through the day so 10 am then 5 then 5 spread across the day . I dont even know what I've been getting with the cut tab as it could be all dose in piece i take am and zero dose pm . It makes sense really .

The last time I checked the UK-based pharmacy had the option of:

20mcg Thybon @ £1 a tablet

5mcg Sigma @ £1 a tablet

I’m on sigma and will ask the Endo if I can take the Thybon (and cut with pill cutter) as it’s a quarter of the price!

Thank you

SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to Wired123

So Sigma 5mcg is £1 per tablet

Morningside Healthcare is £3.50 per tablet!

Many of us get 20mcg tablets and cut into 1/4’s (as its so much cheaper)

I find using a craft scalpel cuts into 1/4’s pretty cleanly

amazon.co.uk/Modelcraft-Sca...

I take 10mcg at 7am, 5mcg at 3pm and 5mcg at 11pm

Not everyone who takes Mercury Pharma T3 can tolerate Morningside T3 ....so make sure you have some spare MP in case it’s too diff

I swapped from MP to morningside, took 3-4 months to get use to

I get 5mcg Morningside lio on nhs prescription. I take 2 x5mcg per day. I did suggest to the surgery that they should prescribe 10mcg tablets and I would halve them to save money. But surgery Insists I get correct dose.

Sixties123 in reply to Lalatoot

Hi thank you for your reply . I feel like I dont get the correct dose when I cut n half . Sometimes it crumbles and I lose some of it so the 5's would help a lot . Do you feel better taking Morningside ? .cheers lesley

Lalatoot in reply to Sixties123

I have had both teva and Morningside lio and was fine on both.

I get my Thybon from Germany - it is about 28p a tablet for 20mcg. The tablets are really solid and do not crumble and I can cut them cleanly. I use this pill cutter after buying several useless ones! smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/produ...

Sixties123 in reply to Carna

Hi Carna that is very similar to mine. I get my t3 on nhs now after having to find myself . I used to get thybon too . Thank you for your reply
