Liothyronine tablets

I have received my first bottle of liothyronine from a specialist pharmacy and wondered if anyone can identify them for me please?

They are round and white and have 1B on both sides. I am particularly interested in the brand and what fillers they have in them.

I am really looking forward to trying them out and am hopeful that they will help.

Thank you!

You could call the pharmacy and they will tell you. They should really already have the brand on the label on the bottle.

Thank you! I have emailed them.

Gosh that was quick..... only 2 days ago you were asking where members sourced T3!Had your medic already prescribed and ordered these pills ?

I would want to know more before taking these pills! This looks like a " bespoke" pill....what info is on the label on the bottle. You are wise to check up on fillers, the base for bespoke pills is, I understand, pre-prepared.

As far as I know you should be able to trace every bespoke medication back to its original formula, lab technician and ingredient source.

Suggest that you contact the supplier and ask for details before using, to avoid any allergy issues

Best...

Thank you so much.... yes, the consultant had given me a private prescription and we were trying to source them from Germany without success which is why I asked. In the end I went to a specialist pharmacy in Richmond who had these in stock.

I have just had an email back saying they are Thybon and lactose free so will see. Thanks for your help.

Are they bio identical to Thybon rather than "the original" ...surprised they do not have clear labelling and a PILDid your consultant suggest this source?

Did you need a prescription?

I'm just curious because it seems an easy way to obtain T3!

To be honest I really don’t know as it came in a bottle and did not have an information leaflet or brand identification. It was a pharmacy recommended by my consultant that is also on the ThyroidUK list. The script was emailed to him yesterday and it arrived this morning.

Unless they were obtained from a very disreputable source, I'd say that without doubt these are bona fide Thybon Henning 20 microgram tablets. See my comment further down. :-)

I agree, the dots were beginning to join up, but it was an error to issue medication without clear labelling and without a PIL. If my local pharmacy dispenses (tablets) from a larger box they always include a PIL (or copy of original) in the smaller box provided.

Mollyfan was not provided with this essential information and had to contact the pharmacy to ask about excipients. Had someone else been less aware they may have suffered an allergic reaction with all the complications/implications that could involve. Further, one should not have to search the internet then translate a copy of a PIL to become informed. Surely this a safety issue.

"Unless all the information is on the pack, all medicines must include a PIL, regardless of how patients get them."

Sorry helvella, I just feel very strongly about the safe use/sale of medicines, as I have no doubt you do too.

Stay safe.

You are absolutely right. Thank goodness for you all!

I wholeheartedly agree that a PIL should always be included.

Yet, I think many of us feel a bit like whingers asking for one. (No, of course we shouldn't.)

Sorry - was out and about and just using phone for a quick reply from memory.

The Sanofi Deutschland page is here:

mein.sanofi.de/produkte/Thybon

Has all the PIL, etc., info. :-) In German. :-(

You will find an online translation facility is pretty good at translating the information.

Wow, thank you! That is really helpful.

I am disappointed that any pharmacy sends such things out without a copy of the Patient Information Leaflet. However important PILs are when going to a pharmacy, they are ten times more important when there is no face-to-face but just a postal service between you and the pharmacy.

This is true. Maybe they think that we would not understand the leaflet ( I can understand a little bit, but nowhere near all of it). Also I think this pharmacy has a good relationship with the consultant. I am very reassured by your help and am sure it is genuine. Also much cheaper than the other U.K. brands I think.

Thank you all for your help. This really is a wonderful group! 🤗

I have no basic issue with this pharmacy - just wish the extra step had been taken. :-)

Thybon Henning normally supplied in blister packs

Surely you should get the standard guidelines paperwork with any medication

Very true, in an ideal world!

Sadly I think a lot of people with hypothyroidism live in a parallel imperfect universe! 😢

Agree SlowDragon See my response above to helvella re (PIL) regulations

Maybe I'm over reacting but I find this rather concerning.

How much did you pay for the tabs and which pharmacy was it?

Be interesting to know the price per tablet as usually it’s about £1 a tab for the 20mcg in the UK.

Mollyfan profile image
Mollyfan in reply to Wired123

It was £2 a tablet which I think is more expensive than other sources, but I wanted to start ASAP and wait for things to settle wrt Germany.

The pharmacy was the one listed in Thyroid U.K. in Richmond. They were very efficient. I expect they get packs of 100 tablets and had to decant into smaller quantities.

Prescription needs to read 100 x 20mcg liothyronine

Mollyfan profile image
Mollyfan in reply to SlowDragon

I will ask for that in future.... thanks for your help.

You are paying far too much. It should be £1 a tablet from UK sources unless the price has doubled since last week due to Brexit.
