Hello everyone. does anyone ever have palpitations after eating? I’m on t3 only at 118.75 mcg per day and still hypo with brain fog that’s reducing as I raise but I’m getting a raised heart rate for about 1.5 hours after I eat. It shoots up from 58 bpm to 90-100? I feel really anxious and jittery.
Does anyone know why this is happening? Is it getting used to the t3? It happens in the afternoon and evening especially after a large meal. I can’t say if I had it before as I was so foggy I didn’t really know where I was. All my vitamins are optimal and I’m gluten free.

Yes I get that sometimes in the evening. There was a thread a few years ago on a similar question. Answer posted then as follows:
Dysautonomia.... Dysregulation of the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems. When you eat systems are focused over here... Due to the dysregulation basically the sympathetic system is overreacting to the digestive process.. For lack of a better technical explanation. Very common is people with pots.. Do you have racing heart standing and such? It presents differently..
Mine is waking. I'm fine waking up..sitting...getting up. 10 to 15 minutes later my heart can be going a mile a minute.. Hot flash cold sweat dizzy and crashing fatigue. Was taking hours to recover from. Just the act of waking up and moving around
Very low dose propranolol and xanax have been helping and I'm. Working on getting sex hormones sorted out in perimenopause which is making a difference too
However I feel it is more to do with taking T3 as it only happened when I was on T3.
I don’t have issues standing thank goodness and i think this is a new thing for me since starting t3. But I do have a high heart rate when I wake. It’s 90 but goes down to 55 after half an hour then shoots up when I eat carbs. I feel anxious and dizzy for 1.5 hours.
Does this go away after time on t3 is to err a way to fix this ?
Have you tried reducing or cutting out carbs? I have similar problems to yours (no solution so far) but they're far worse after the occasional meal with a high-carb item that I usually ration, like sweet potato.
It can be part of the slow adjustment to T3. I'm not really sure why T3 would bring on this problem, or cause it to worsen. I'll need to do some research.
I imagine it takes time to get used to, it’s common for slow increases of t3 so the endocrine system has time to adjust. The heart is directly affected. But I don’t know for sure.
Out of interest where do you do your research ? I wanted dr lowes book but it’s like gold dust
Any reputable source, really. The thyroid patient support websites have all kinds of useful links. Then there are the top quality blogs by Paul Robinson and Tania Sona Smith (thyroidpatients.ca) which contain both discussion and links. The books by John Lowe are excellent, as are the ones written by Paul Robinson, and Mark Starr. I think it's also worth looking through papers on PubMed and dipping into big textbooks like Werner & Ingbar.
Thank you, Ive read Paul Robinson books but there’s nothing really on detailed difficulties. Just vitamins and cortisol iron etc. Dr lowes book I would love to get as I’m trialing one dose per day t3 but it’s like gold dust. What you can find in the internet is helpful however. And this site is great to see others experiences. I’ll check out pubmed thanks
