Bringing six month supply NDT into France

Hello I am in the US. I have a room in London where I live part time but I am thinking of retiring full time to France. Can I have NDT shipped to London from my doc in US and bring it into France on train? I can’t believe it is banned in France! Can you get it with prescription in the UK? I always bring 6 months supply with me. Thank you!

You might not want to believe it, but desiccated thyroid is illegal in France. greygoose posted this explanation:

When anything arrives in the UK, it is subject to UK value added tax plus customs clearance charges. And when anything is sent to France, after the brexit transition arrangements, it will be subject to French value added tax.

I don't think anyone should assume anything but the worst in this regard. Of course, there might be some agreements or allowances.

What about having NDT prescribed by a Dr. in London picking it up when I visit and bringing into France? Thank you!

It might be hard finding a doctor in London to prescribe desiccated thyroid at all.

Currently, it appears that people travelling from the UK into France will be subject to customs just like those travelling from much of the rest of the world.

The usual pattern of customs around the world is for travellers to be asked if they have anything to declare. If you declare desiccated thyroid, you will not be allowed to take it in with you. If you do not declare desiccated thyroid, but they find some, you could end up in a very uncomfortable position. It is obvious carrying illegal drugs is often treated very seriously. (Even if we can see a clear divide between desiccated thyroid and cocaine.)

There is no way of legally getting desiccated thyroid into France. If you find a way of getting it in, even if it works, it will be illegal. Worse, I have no understanding of French law, but even trying to get it in - carried by you, in a parcel, etc. - might be illegal.

We have heard of several members who had packages confiscated by French customs.

You would need to take advice from a suitably qualified French lawyer to investigate whether there is any possibility of challenging the law for individual cases. And the position regarding even trying.

I am glad I live in the UK because I had no trouble ordering my NDT from Thailand. It took 9 days and the postman handed it to me on my doorstep. Obviously things have changed now because of the coronavirus but hopefully we will be able to get it again from Thailand once they start manufacturing it again.

I am only aware of it being expressly made illegal in France.

Afraid I do not know the legal status in Spain.

It is illegal to prescribe, buy without a prescription and import NDT into France. From anywhere.

It is illegal to buy any prescription medication without a prescription in France.
