What non-prescription thyroid meds are people using while Thyroid-S is unavailable?
I'm looking for a non-prescription substitute f... - Thyroid UK
I'm looking for a non-prescription substitute for Thyroid-S during current 2020 shortage. Any suggestions?
Metavive works for me, to be honest feel better on it than did on thyroid s. Sorry in a rush but Google it will get you to a site
I've been on Thyroid S and still have a supply but have been checking other possible products if this shortage goes on for ever. I'm in the U S and found that Metavive will not ship here. Does anyone in the U S know of an alternative for Thyroid S?
Thyro Gold
Sorry in a mad dash today but Google it lol
I'm also in the US and have found a couple of possibilities similar to Metavive. They are all bovine glandulars from New Zealand cattle. Because they're sold as supplements, you won't be able to get any information about the amount of T3 and T4. You'll also need to experiment with dosages as it will likely be different from the Thyroid-S that you've been on.
As fibrolinda mentioned, Thyro Gold is one option. I decided not to go with this one for two reasons. The first is that they include Coleus forskohlin in their formula. I have high blood pressure and sometimes have difficulty with certain herbs causing my BP to spike. If you have side effects or don't get the results you expect, you won't know if it's the herb or the glandular that's the problem, so I prefer to keep them separate. The other problem that I have with Thyro Gold is that the company gouges you on shipping. Charging a flat rate of $15.00 per order for US shipping is ridiculous. You can find Thyro Gold at: naturalthyroidsolutions.com.
Another option is Thyrovanz and, if you search this forum, you'll also find some posts about it. This glandular comes in a variety of doses making it easier to find the one that's right for you. You can find Thyrovanz at : thyroidsupplements.com.
The third one that I've come across is called Nutri-Meds. I decided to order from this company because they'd been in business since 2001 and they have quite a few very positive reviews about their products. They don't have as many dosing options as Thyrovanz does but they offer both capsules and tablets. I decided to get the tablets as I can cut them in half (or fourths) if needed while I'm trying to find my best dosage. They shipped my order very quickly and I expect to receive it within the next couple of days. You can find Nutri-Meds at : nutri-meds.com.
I haven't, as yet, tried any of these options. Up to now, I've been using first TR TMan before they stopped making it and then Thyroid-S which no one seems able to get right now. Hopefully I'll do as well (or better) on the glandular and it would be nice to find a product that doesn't have to ship from overseas.
Good luck with your own search. The main thing to remember is that the dosage of glandular that you might need could be quite different from the amount of Thyroid-S that you've been taking.
