URGENT!

What's the difference between low cortisol and hyperthyroidism?

I'm losing weight quickly, agitated, nervous, high BP, high HR, low temperature. I don't have blood tests yet.

They are completely different, hyperthyroidism is too much thyroxine in the body. Low cortisol is due to an issues with either the adrenal glands or pituitary gland. To check for low cortisol you need to have an early morning blood test to see what the cortisol level is. First thing in the morning it should be between 350-550nmol/Ls, cortisol then drops during the day to low levels overnight. if you cortisol is below 100nmol/Ls then it is an immediate diagnosis of adrenal insufficiency, if it is below 350nmol/Ls then you need further testing. Blood pressure is usually low with low cortisol not high though.

Margimet, This could be due to excess thyroid hormone. What thyroid medication are you taking at the moment?
