I have a small solid lump right under my Adam’s Apple, very slightly to the (my) left. It almost feels like it’s cartilage but I’m not sure if I’ve ever noticed it before... It moves up and down when I swallow etc but it doesn’t move when I push it about. Like I say most likely part of the cartilage but can’t seem to find any information on it...
The lump is about the size of a pea... Anyone had anything similar...? Thanks.
Went to docs and he couldn’t say for sure what it was, possibly some extra cartilage as it felt unusual. He said 99.9% it’s nothing to worry about but to keep an eye on it. I shouldn’t be such a hypochondriac but I can’t help worrying that it’s in the 0.1%...

You could get thyroid ultrasound scan- costs around £150 privately
And/or FULL thyroid and vitamin testing
For full Thyroid evaluation you would need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies
Ask GP to test vitamin levels
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins
I agree with Slow Dragon. I wouldn’t leave it if I were you. My sister in law developed what her doctor assumed was ‘just’ a cyst on her neck and left her for a year as she had just had a new baby and was breast feeding.
It turned out to be malignant which wasn’t good. She had the lump and her thyroid removed and went on to lead a very active energetic life, she is still going strong and the baby is now nearly fifty.
I’d just push for finding out exactly what it is, as you say there’s always a possibility it might be something to worry about and you need to know for sure.
Go to A&E I'm sorry ignoring lumps is just wrong. I had tiny freckle on my face and my GP sent me straight to hospital that day. It was nothing but the nurse said had I noticed any other little lumps, I had but didn't want to say where, 4 days later it was removed, it was ok but it just as easily might not. It was a bartholin cyst and very weird my best friend had same biopsy same time, hers was cancer and it had spread to lymph, she is still fighting it 3 years on.
This is not to scare you but lumps need checking properly. Don't leave it, be relieved when you get the thumbs up from a specialist, we all know how wrong Drs can be on here xxx sending love
Thanks for all your replies. I’m sure it’s nothing as I’m in a bit of a stressful situation just now as it is so everything is exacerbated. Going for a blood test on Monday (7 Sept) initially. However, won’t be able to get an ultrasound imminently due to COVID back log apparently and I’m relocating on 12 September. Where I am currently living there are no private facilities to get ultrasound so will have to wait another couple of weeks until I’m moved.
99 times out of 100 it is nothing but better a specialist tells you, not a GP. Ask your GP for a referral right away, mine sent me that day with a letter, i walked straight into A&E and was seen quickly.
My only real experience is with dogs (sorry) but vet always told me if it moves a its a cyst, gristle, lots of other things but if its attached it needs biopsy sooner than later. I know its difficult but the size and the fact its attchd is worrying. You should not need to book a scan, you should see specialist who will say if it needs scan, yes backlogs but many are still sitting twiddling their thumbs.
I would go into A&E say i have a history of cancer in my family, i cant get GP appt I need this checked, they are not allowed to fob off potential cancer and jeeez your GP 'its unusual' christ on a bike, its those things that need sorting, not waiting and see!! sorry but i can be a bit pushy.
