Had Iron tests on 5 August as advised on here.

CRP HS 0.59 mg/L (Range <5)

Iron 17.17 umol/L (5.8-34.5)

TIBC 60.87 umol/L (45-72)

UIBC 43.7 umol/L (24.2-70.1)

Transferrin Sat 28.21% (20-50)

Ferritin 55.9 ug/L (13-150)

I have been eating more food containing iron such as liver and veg such as celery since the last test in June.

Also had Adrenal Test 31 July:

Cortisol - Waking 10.2 nmol/L (6 - 21)

Cortisol 12:00 14.4 nmol/L (1.5 - 7.6)

Cortisol 16:00 2.670 nmol/L (0-5.5)

Cortisol - Before bed <1.5 nmol/L (0-2)

Feel absolutely dreadful. Aches and pains everywhere. Can barely walk at times.

Still on Levo 50 mcg and Lio 5 mcg x 2 daily. Do I need to take iron?.. If so would Spatone be a good choice in view of previous bad reactions to iron medication?

Optimal levels for an iron panel, according to rt3-adrenals.org/Iron_test_... are:

Serum iron: 55 to 70% of the range, higher end for men - yours is 41.46% through range so is a bit low.

Saturation: optimal is 35 to 45%, higher end for men - yours is 28.21% so is a bit low.

TIBC: Low in range indicates lack of capacity for additional iron, High in range indicates body's need for supplemental iron - yours is 58.78% through range so a little over half way.

UIBC: Low in range indicates that you may have too much iron in your blood which may be due to iron overload syndrome (hereditary haemochromatosis). High in range signifies iron deficiency - yours is 42.48% through range so a little lower than half way.

Ferritin: Low level virtually always indicates need for iron supplementation; High level with low serum iron/low saturation indicates inflammation or infection; High level with high serum iron and low TIBC indicates excess iron; Over range with saturation above 45% suggests hemochromatosis.

Ferritin is recommended to be half way through range so that would be 82 with that range.

Your results don't show iron deficiency and just the need to boost everything a bit, so I would have thought continuing with eating liver every week (max 200g due to high Vit

A content) would be a good idea.

Cortisol - Waking 10.2 nmol/L (6 - 21)

Cortisol 12:00 14.4 nmol/L (1.5 - 7.6)

Cortisol 16:00 2.670 nmol/L (0-5.5)

Cortisol - Before bed <1.5 nmol/L (0-2)

Unfortunately, the Medichecks adrenal test isn't a lot of use. It doesn't test DHEA and that is needed as well as cortisol. But two of their samples don't have proper ranges, they start at zero and considering that ranges are supposedly based on health people then if anyone did really have a cortisol level of zero they'd either be very ill or they'd tested someone in the morgue.

Optimal levels, according to rt3-adrenals.org/cortisol_t... are

• Morning at the top of the range - yours is 28% through range so very low.

• Noon approximately 75% of the range - yours is 211.48% of range so very high.

• Evening close to 50% of the range

• Nighttime at the bottom of the range

No point in considering the last two samples as the ranges are stupid. The bedtime result is ludicrous because it could be anywhere between zero and 1.4 - close to zero would be the best result, 1.4 would be far too high and unfortunately saying <1.5 is totally meaningless.

Best adrenal salive test is done by either Regenerus or Genova Diagnostics - they include DHEA and they have proper ranges.

Hey there Mugs

Just reading your history as your comment regarding RAI and a violation of human rights hit home with me - and thank you for this comment on the other lady's post.

So I couldn't tolerate the iron tablets when my ferritin came in at 22 and I too took Spatone x 2 + Solgar Gentle Iron tablets and ate liver weekly.

I'm now up at aroud 100 where I know I need to be for optimal thyroid hormone conversion and found Asda do frozen chicken livers. They are very clean and mild and one little pot a week keeps me topped up.

Flash fry in a little olive oil and then whiz down into a pate and store in the fridge.

One spoonful a day helps this medicine go down - especially with a little help from Hellmans Mayo :

Thank you for showing an interest and taking the time to message me. What size of spoonful do you take? Have just had a blood test and when I have the results, will try this if needed. Already have the spatone.

Hey there

Well one small tub should fill about half a jam jar when whizzed down, maybe with a dollop of mayo then, if it loks too dry : I just take a spoonful each morning and depending on the spoon it takes me about 4 days until the contents are gone.

Of course there's no reasn why you can't eat the contents at one sitting - if you like liver - personally I ate so much liver when my levels were so low, I've no interest in eating it any longer. It's in my freezer more for health reasons and it has to be a more natural choice than any of the conventional medical options., and probably a lot cheaper as I think it's about a pound a pot.

My saliva reduced to zero after RAI and I spent around 18 months in absolute agony. It's now returned but my taste buds haven't - so eating for me now is totally academic, there are details on my profile page.

My sympathies. I lost my sense of smell and taste when on holiday in Lanzarote 18 months ago. It was awful. But please tell me is it a tablespoon or a dessert spoon or a teaspoon I need to take each day?

pennyannie in reply toMugs19

It doesn't matter as long as you consume the contents of no more than 1 pot a week :
