I have been using the above for 26 years after a hysterectomy. It used to be called Pro-gest and now I am using Serenity. I have read on here that I might not be using the best product, but I can't remember the name of the alternative. I would welcome any other suggestions please if that is allowed, if not could you please private message me.

Thank you

I use Elan Organics but I can't say if it's any better because I haven't used the others.

That's the one SeasideSusie , and I thought it was you! I have read that there might have been issues about the piggies being used and that they might be Chinese.....I have been on Serenity as I said for a long time, but would prefer something more organic, and it might be the time now try something different. How do you find it?

Elan state on their website that they contain no Chinese ingredients, my ex-practioner told me it was the only one that doesn't use Chinese ingredients.

Progesterone cream doesn't come from piggies, that's NDT. Progesterone cream is plant based.

Oh dear what a pea-brain I am, such confusion lately, of course they don't use piggies....!!!!! I didn't want any Chinese ingredients, so that is the one for me.

SeasideSusie,

Just wondering how you use it and did you have a progesterone test beforehand? Thanks

Serendipitious

It's a cream that you apply topically. Yes, I had complete hormone profile done beforehand.

I’ve heard that progesterone cream can build up in our skin and fat tissues. I’m afraid of this and over doing it. How can we prevent this?

I'm not qualified to answer those questions I'm afraid, but I can tell you that I have been taking it since early 2016, according to the instructions, and I have had no problems.

Thank you that’s good to know

I think there are risks with everything, I have taken/applied it for 26 years and I am still here and feeling ok at 68. I haven't had a hormone profile but took the chance, having had a complete hysterectomy and no ovaries I needed something and it wasn't going to be Pharmaceutical HRT.

Yes I’m completely against synthetic hormones but I’m still afraid of bioidentical ones 😂

I have very heavy periods and I’ve heard some amazing success stories but I’ve always been afraid of trying it. I’ve read lots of books by Dr John Lee too. Thanks for sharing your experience.

You are in a different place to where I am/was, I too had heavy period, my whole young life was of misery and pain. I now know it was my un-treated thyroid causing my problems/countless operations and ultimately a complete hysterectomy at 42 which caused me no end of damage not having had children. I would say to you sort out your thyroid/thyroid medication/diet before dabbling with any hormones you might just find that you don't need them. Good luck!

Sorry to hear that. I’ve spent years trying to “optimise” my thyroid results. There’s definitely more to it than just getting drug levels right. Gut health is also very important in regulating thyroid hormones and so much else which I’m also working on. If I could fix my heavy periods it would mean so much to me. I’ve suffered with this since my teens but I’m not hopeful.

So I take it you had no idea you were hypothyroid even by 42? What problems did the hysterectomy cause if you don’t mind me asking?

You are right gut health is No. 1 priority. When I was menstruating gut health was not discussed. The evidence was there, I always looked pale with great big black bags under my eyes, highs and lows, terrible pre-menstrual tension low iron, like my mother, nobody discussed my thyroid just gave me pills. My poor mum suffereed all her life as did her mother, most of my family have thyroid problems, so the evidence was there again. I could go on forever about this.....I didn't know I had a thyroid problem until I had my thyroid removed due to cancer when I was 51. From then on I learnt a lot and am pretty ok thanks to this site/ Dr. Peatfield....

Regarding the hysterectomy and after affects, i will p.m. you.

I've come to the conclusion that my great aunt must have had undiagnosed thyroid issues. She passed away when I was a child, she ate very little, was very overweight and depressed and tragically died in her early 50s. Of course I felt back then that she was really old but now I realise how premature her death was.

I'm grateful for the knowledge we have and for the internet which has certainly allowed me to collaborate and learn so much.
