Are Medichecks Tests always reliable

pussycatwillow profile image
12 Replies

I posted yesterday about a significant difference between the results from Medichecks and NHS blood test.

8 July

T4 24.4 ( 12-22 h

T3 5.9 ( 3.1 - 6.8 )

28 July

T4 17.5 Same réf range as above

T3 3.8

There is a 3 week gap between tests.

Has anyone experienced this with Medichecks.

As you have Hashimoto’s levels can change quite a lot

Are your vitamin levels optimal

Are you on strictly gluten free diet

Were both tests done as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Always get same brand of levothyroxine?

Hi SD

Yes both tests on empty stomach between 0900 and 1000. Levo taken 24 hrs before.

TSH was similar on both

It was the ultra vit test

B12. 150 Well above range

Vit D. 75.2. (50-175)

Folate Serum. 12.67. Above range

Just seems odd there is such a difference.

Medichecks suggest overmedication but the NHS test only shows T4 to be 55% in range and T3 19%

GP didn’t offer much help, said they would reduce Levo. I declined!

They have offered another blood test in 3 months

Are you on strictly gluten free diet or dairy free diet

Different foods can affect absorption

Menstrual cycle can affect levels too

Gluten free but not dairy free.

Menstrual cycle not applicable as have had menopause.

Conversion of Ft4 to Ft3 often gets worse after menopause

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking?

If taking any supplements that contain biotin (eg vitamin B complex) did you remember to stop taking a week before ALL Blood tests?

I’m not sure. I honestly can’t remember 😩.

Igennus B Complex

Vit D and K2

COQ10

I think I may have not taken the Vit B before the NHS test.

Well if you didn’t stop vitamin B complex for testing that could also explain the different results

Three weeks is quite a long time so difference is likely to be that. Time of day might have impacted it?

I did a Medichecks and Thriva test from the same blood draw and they came back very similar though not exact. Certainly not different enough to take a different course of action
