I was recommended to try metavive but don’t know whether to use piggy or cow?! What are the deciding factors here?

Did your TSH ever go above range? If so, with raised antibodies, you should be started on Levo.

As for Metavive, what suits one doesn't necessarily suit another. Who recommended this to you? If a practioner, why no guidance?

Try the piggy, if it doesn't suit, try the cow.

Hi Seaside susie and thanks for replying. I have had hashis for 24 years and have managed through diet, supps etc with regular testing. So i have higher antibodies (but 70 rather than 700). TSH has always been around 4 or 5 with T4 around 13 and T3 just below mid range. If it were a school report it would read 'she's doing ok but could try harder'! Dr obviously not interested in prescribing anything as I'm 'in range'. Generally plodded through ok but menopause curve ball has made me feel crappy and exacerbated general hypo type symptoms, blood sugars creeping up and clothes getting tight. I'm still 'in range' so have been offered HRT and/or anti depressants/anxiety meds! Guess I've been lucky generally when i read how some guys really go through it but i could definitely feel better - hence the suggestion of WDT. So there's my rather uninteresting story :) And you think piggy first?

Piggy would be closest to NDT (don't forget that Metavive is a thyroid glandular with no declared hormone content so not classed as NDT. Give it a try, maybe start with Metavive l (lowest dose piggy), see how you go. I'd retest before starting then 6-8 weeks after and see what difference it makes to your test results and symptoms. You can always increase to 2 x Metavive l and if you find that dose is better then buy the Metavive ll as that is double the dose of Metavive l and may work out cheaper. After dose increase, retest again 6-8 weeks later to see what difference it has made.

As well as testing thyroid levels before starting, I'd also test your nutrient levels as these should be optimal.

Thanks for response. Can I ask whether anyone has experienced weight gain on these. I started a couple of weeks ago and I have DEFINITELY gained belly fat which was not what I wanted?

I don't know if anyone has gained weight with it, maybe start a new thread to ask that specific question so those that use it can respond (they wont see your question tucked away in this thread). I've never used it myself.

Thanks for response and apologies for delay. Can I ask if you are still on them, what dose and how you are fairing, Did you experience weight gain? Did you also use adrenal glandulars? TIA
