Hi, please can someone tell me what's the best TSH and T4 to have ( I can't take T3 or NDT due to hormonal cancer. I've had radioactive iodine). I no everyone is different but would like to no what I should aim for. Don't want to no about all the other tests just these 2 please. Thank you. D x
TSH and T4 please: Hi, please can someone tell me... - Thyroid UK
TSH and T4 please
The best results are the ones that are optimal for you. Where you can lead a reasonable life fairly symptom free.
When on levothyroxine tsh levels should be around 1 or lower.
We are all different so we need to find our own levels through trial and error.
Most of us need our free T4 and free T3 to be in the top third - sometimes higher - to feel well, although as Lalatoot say,s we're all different and it's your own position that matters most for you. I understand you're only interested in TSH and free T4, but having these as "perfect" but being a poor converter (ie having very low T3) means you are likely not to feel well.
I understand some people who can't tolerate T3 meds or NDT and just on levo end up with over-range free T4 (with their doctors' blessing) to get their free T3 high enough.
Good luck in finding your "right" dose x
Did you have thyroid cancer? If so people can still take NDT or T3 if that is the case and there are some members on here who do.
Hi no not thyroid cancer liver bone and lynch gland , but treatment monthly injection means I can't tolerate t3 or NDT. I am not a newcomers to thyroid problems had 8 years of it. Just wanted to no what people thought about a good level to b at. I've had hundreds of tests could write a book. D x
I am surprised if you know this much why you need advice from us because we are not medically trained. However my understanding is that your T4 and T3 need to be in the upper third of the range and your TSH 1 or lower. Also all your vitamin levels need to be optimal for the artificial hormone Levothyroxine to work. I would have a look at Elaine Moore's site unless you already have because she had RAI and there is a lot of useful information on there.
Here is a link.
Your so forthright I'm just trying my best. I don't know everything I no lots about my condition and the way it works with my thyroid. I just asked a question. No need to jump for my throat.
I am just trying to help ... the written word can come across different to when you say it face to face. I would look at Elaine Moore's site because she helped me get diagnosed after 2 years of being fobbed off by my useless GP who said I had the menopause. I hope you manage to get the right treatment by the way.
I've had hormone related cancer and take NDT. Also your question seems to show your understanding is poor, so would suggest further reading.
My understanding is not poor had this for 8 years not thyroid cancer but neuroendocrine hormonal cancer the injection each month plays havoc with thyroid. I have seen hundreds of specialists. I have a real understanding but I just wanted to no what was the best rang of tsh and T4. That's all. D
Maybe you can educate us then because what you’re saying doesn’t add up to what we know? Sometimes this can happen when a person presents with a condition that is very unique, such as Neuroendocrine cancer as I’m assuming that it manifests differently in different people? There isn’t a ‘best’ range for FT4 because even though many of us on this forum won’t have had Neuroendocrine cancer we are still all very unique. Those of us with thyroid conditions often work on feeling optimal by our FT3 results because those are the active hormones. And for me the FT4 result did not give an accurate picture of my health because I am a poor convertor. It also kept my TSH result lower in range which again was not an accurate picture of health. In my case lower in range TSH and higher in range FT4 was not the whole story.
I’m curious as to who told you t3/NDT was not suitable and why?
I take octotide monthly any drug interacts with it. NDT and T3 made me I'll. Over the past 8 years I've had all the tests done but never been able to feel completely well. All I wanted to no was a what people thought was a good level to aim for. Octriatide brings your thyroid low so it's a balance all the time. I have regular full checks with medichecks. You all seem very critical and judgemental in your comments I was just asking a question. My cancer is terminal kindness costs nothing d
I think people were only trying to tell you that there is not one number for everyone. They say 1 for TSH, I always feel better at 0.02! At my best when my T4 is slightly over range. Your thyroid must be so difficult to manage along with everything else. I try and keep away from Drs and have been known to add an extra bit of Levo here and there. Di
Thank you that's all I wanted to no. D x
Sometimes the way things are read is not the way they were written? You definitely peaked my curiosity but I still couldn’t tell you what a ‘good’ TSH or FT4 is. Feeling optimal is all about the FT3 and that doesn’t change no matter what condition you have. If Levo suits you then you might need to take more in order to ‘nautraly’ covert to T3. If you get those 2 tests together you may be able to work out what your ‘number’ is. Your optimal.
Best of luck with your treatment, I’m really sorry to hear your condition is terminal.
