Hi Cavelet

I've suffered from this for a long time now .. I'm very sure it's Thyroid related .. like a lot of other things are .

But

I've discovered a nasal wash called Sterimar... 100mls from Amazon or other Pharmacies , which is absolutely great for clearing it .

If you use it properly you can feel great afterwards . I use it at bedtime and it helps me sleep better as it's worse when lying down .

Good luck with it

I use that for hay fever and it works well for me.

Oh thank you so much for this advice ..I’m getting more help from this forum than my GP !!

Haha.. yes I think you'll find that more and more .. as time goes on 😘

Try inhaling steam from a bowl now and again too it loosens the mucus at the back of the nose/throat .. one or two menthol crystals in it makes it even better .

Best of luck with it

Hi, I thought I might buy some too. But there are different types, one with copper, etc. Which one is best? Thank you!

hi, have used this for years, ones for hayfever and allergies and the other for congestion. The congestion works best for blocked nose. Hope this helps.

The one for Congestion is very good .. I'm sure it's particularly good for your problem .

my mum is hypo and has the same problem - I am sure it is related in her case and would love to be able to get her to try the wash you recommend but v much doubt it.

That's a pity .. why don't you buy one for her .. then she might be tempted to try it if it's there ..

Alternatively , she could use a steam inhaler Which you can find on Amazon .. or just a bowl with a towel over her head

Some menthol in it helps too .

The Sterimar is very good though and DEFINATELY works if you get the knack of it .

Good luck with your Mum

Thanks Madge - I ran it past her, but sadly she wasn't keen. She does the steam inhalation [or says she does] with menthol and sometimes says that helps. I also mentioned to her the possibility of putting a drop of olbas oil on her foot at night at bedtime - but I don 't know if she does that either - you know what they say, you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink. Really wish she would try these things as she snores terribly almost to apnoea levels and she complains of poor sleep and being tired the next day.

My nose use to drip a lot during the day and my eyes steaming in the evening watching tv. This doesn’t happen anymore now. My thyroid levels were out. I was only on T4 Levothyroxine medication and now I’m on T3 medication also. I’m a poor converter T4 to T3. Its completely gone now.

Hi, I'm enlightened by the replies to your post.... This symptom has been bothering me also.. It can be very scary sometimes when swallowing is very difficult.... I was awakened by cramp in the very back of my tongue one night..... It's really difficult to remain calm, but I feel you and the reply for using sterimar, thank you I will try that too... Relieved to learn that others have the same symptom, good health to you, Filenada

Yes it is very scary ,almost brings on a panic attack when it happens !

I’m amazed how many of us have these same symptoms, not once has a doctor picked up on the connection? I was sent for an MRI scan because of tinnitus just on my left side as could have been something sinister but all came back clear , and the ear nose and throat doctor couldn’t give me any answers .
