Unchartered Waters- making a change

Hi everyone... I looking for some advice and being the only forum which I trust for my thyroid needs please could someone advise on the following ...

I am currently taking thyroid S. I want to switch to something with no pig extract (religious reasons) Can anyone suggest something similar ? I am very scared of The change as I have been well, So a little apprehensive. I would love to hear from anyone who has made similar switch and their experiences. I am taking currently 2 and half grains with 12.5mcg T3 (which I plan to leave as it is so difficult to obtain).

If someone could Message me as to where I could obtain also the equivalent NDT but with no pig extract that would be great.

As always thank you.

Sophie

There is one which was invented by one of TUK's Advisers (now deceased) and it is made from grass-fed cows thyroid glands. Dr Lowe died through an accident and his widow is now dealing with Thyrogold. He developed it so that it didn't need a prescription.

There is no alternative equivalent, NDT is made from pigs' thyroids whatever the brand.

There are thyroid glandulars - bovine as well as porcine, but the trouble with glandulars is that they are sold as a food supplement with no declared hormone content (it would be a prescription item if hormone content was declared), so if you used a glandular you wont get any particular T4 or T3 content and you may or may not do well on it.

Some bovine thyroid glandular brands are

Nutri Thyroid

Metavive ll and lV

Thyrovanz

Thyrogold

There may be more if you do a Google search for "bovine thyroid glandulars", but none of them have any declared hormone content.

If you want to know exactly what T4/T3 hormone content you're getting then it's either synthetic Levo plus T3 or stick with your Thyroid-S.

Thank you and sorry for the late reply ...

You are allowed to take pig products for medical reasons (eg diabetes) if you belong to a religion that does not eat pigs. If you don't want to do that, your best bet is thyroxine plus T3.
