Results show normal but are they?

Hi I am wondering if anyone can help me interpret my results from medicheck.

I posted on the weight loss forum here on HealthUnlocked and quite a few people said I should have my thyroid checked. Previously I only had TSH done via nhs which was normal.

My results from Medicheck are all within range although some on the lower end and I was wondering if this could still cause my symptoms or if all is ok.

I have IBS, Chronic Urticaria (hives), stubborn weight gain, fatigue, aching joints.

Thank you.

A normal healthy person would have a TSH of no more than 2, possibly around 1, with FT4 around mid-range. Your TSH fits into that, and your FT4 is only 29% through it's range which is on the low side, your FT3 is also low at just 11.35% through it's range. It's possible that those levels are what's normal for you, nobody is ever tested when perfectly healthy to give us a baseline, but for some people those FT4/FT3 levels would be low.

Sometimes low nutrient levels can cause symptoms which overlap with symptoms of hypothyroidism so it's worth checking Vit D, B12, Folate and Ferritin. Did you have the full thyroid/vitamin panel (Thyroid Check Ultravit) or just the basic thyroid panel?

I just got the Thyroid panel as I couldn’t afford the full shebang lol. Thanks for your reply x

Ask GP to test for coeliac disease, vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

An ultrasound scan of thyroid can help diagnose thyroid problems...but GP unlikely to agree to that

Both Ft4 and Ft3 are very low

What’s your diet like?

Vegetarian or vegan

Picky? Good?

Hi SlowDragon,

I’ve been tested previously for celiac due to my IBS and I’m not.

My GP aren’t doing blood testing at the moment due to Covid. So any bloods I will have to pay to do via post but I will look into the ones you suggest.

Up until about 2 weeks ago I was eating a ‘normal’ omnivorous diet but calorie counting. Which I’d been doing since February but not losing any weight. I switched to a low carb diet 2 weeks ago but am still eating lots of veg as well as eggs, cheese and meat just cutting out starchy veg, rice, bread and pasta etc

Low calorie can lower Ft3

Suggest you get vitamin D test next

Vitamin -d test .org £29 NHS postal kit

Trying strictly gluten free diet recommended
