Changing from NDT to Levo

Hi,

I’m looking for some advice on dosage please. Due to the current situation I have been unable to source my NDT. I was taking 3 1/2 grains each day. Each grain/tablet was 60mg. What would you recommend with regards to how much Levo I should be taking please? Thank you 😊

Hi Scazzoh, thank you for your reply. The NDT I was taking was from Thailand, Greater Pharma. So you think 325mcg or 350mcg? I started Levo last week and on 100mcg so sounds like the dose is too low?

Please be very careful here, Scazzoh's calculations are incorrect. The Greater Pharma brand was called "Thiroyd". This was slightly weaker than the other NDT brands such as Thyroid-S.

One grain of Thiroyd contained:

T4 = 35mcg, plus T3 = 8.31mcg per grain.

Your previous 3.5 grains of Thiroyd is equivalent to:

3.5 x 35mcg T4 = 122.5mcg T4

PLUS

3.5 x 8.31mcg T3 = 29.1mcg T3

I've seen a multiplier of 3 or 4 used to convert the T3 to a T4 equivalent, so that adds between 87mcg to 116mcg extra

When rounded this comes to between 210 and 240mcg levo equivalent.

So a lot more than 100mcg of levo.

Thank you both so much, I really appreciate your advice. I think I will up to 200mcg as this is nearer to what I’ve been used to. I will get a blood test in 6 weeks and also see how I feel generally

Best of luck! I'll be interested to hear how you get on with the switch. I've recently ordered the new Thai brand to try, Tru Thyroid, which again is a different strength.

I’ll keep you posted. I’d be interested to see how you get in too. I must admit I’m feeling apprehensive as I don’t want to feel unwell again. Good luck!

I've not used Armour but the link below quotes one grain of Armour as 38mcg T4 and 9mcg T3. This is the same as the widely used Thai brand Thyroid-S.

However you used 48mcg of T4 in your calculations for Armour?
