Liothyronine

At the beginning of lock down gp stopped my tiny dose of liothyronine 5mg morning/night,no warning. I have NHS endo. Yearly checks for 5/6yrs now. Was ok on 100mg levothroxine in morning and 5mg liothyronine morning/night.

May 2019 Last bloods.

Free T3 5.6

Serum free T4 16.4

Serum TSH 0.02 endo is fine with TSH suppressed.

I wrote to gp practice manager explaining also asking for written confirmation of,Who discontinued liothyronine and why. Her reply was,The practice will be looking into the reasons for my complaint and we will respond as soon as we are able to. That was 6wks ago.

I wrote to endo receptionist 14th April explaining also asking if they could prescribe and offered to pay until this matter is resolved. No response.

I wrote to NHS Sunderland clinical commissioning group explaining. They basically told me,I’m on ongoing patient, medication should not have been stopped without consulting endo, speak to gp/endo.

I filled in on line form complaining to CCG Sunderland, they say there’s nothing they can do,gp has not behaved inappropriately.

NHS England acknowledged my complaint but Covid 19 takes priority.

I jus give up,l stopped taking liothyronine about 4/5wks ago,l have about a dozen tablets left,my heart was trying to climb out of my mouth it thumbed that hard it’s easing of now,l get that cold I cry,my mood is a rollercoaster, some days I wish I wasn’t here,l can’t cope with any stressful situation at all,my memory does not exist anymore,I cry uncontrollably randomly,is there anything I can do please.

That is correct. Your GP is totally in the wrong. You have to be reviewed by the endo before T3 is de-prescribed, if endo says you need it then it still should be prescribed.

I have found this article:

GP should not have stopped your T3

Make a face to face appointment

Tick list of symptoms

thyroiduk.org/wp-content/up...

NHS endocrinologist is the expert, GP doesn’t have authority to stop T3

Insist prescription is reinstated, as per national guidelines

GP MUST refer back to endocrinologist before altering any T3 prescription

Why not contact the CCG and check there have been no changes to their stance on T3 prescriptions. I can't see any via their website. Ask them what their liothyronine policy is. It may take them a few days for someone to find out, but then you'll know if it was definitely the GP's decision or not.

And keep chasing them if they don't reply quickly.
