Well, knock me down feather🤗

Had telephone call from Endo consultant today . Very apprehensive as it was the first time with that hospital. Was worried as another consultant wanted to lower my Thyroxine despite being the most well I’ve been in years ( all thanks to this forum 😘)

My wonderful GP had retired and the other docs there 🤭😡, well, would rather not say what I think of them 😥.

After prelims I told him they (my GPs) wanted to lower T4 because of low TSH and he said ‘well TSH will always be low as you are taking T3 ‘ OMG . That’s what happens he said . I’m now hanging on his every word .

He said he would monitor and support me in this ,although unable to prescribe because of cost ! None of the nonsense we often hear spouted !

He asked about my weight 😳 again often fobbed off by most . I was able to tell him my weight is stable .

He would sent labels to do bloods and an appointment 4 months time to do face to face consult hopefully .

There’s a god somewhere .

Not meant to annoy anyone but just to say there are good ones out there . I ve been long enough finding this one.

Good luck everyone

Folks will be queuing up to see him!

I am so pleased that you too have an understanding Endo, who actually knows what T3 is and what it does!! I know that I am very thankful for mine . Beyond that,I best not comment at the moment.

Stay safe and well.😊

If this endocrinologist is not on the Thyroid UK list ...please email Dionne at Thyroid UK to get them added on to list

They do exist then!

Hope his analysis of your labs is helpful.

Hope you continue to feel well

Hurrah! There’s hope! What a good post to read! I had an Endo appointment booked in for today but apparently they rejected it months ago - so back to the drawing board.

Best of luck!

You sure it wasn't just postponed? Mine was cancelled in April because of COVID and then there was a phone call saying I was rebooked for this month.

If I were you I would make enquiries, and also try and get a copy of the referral letter. And if all else fails, complain, first to the Practice Manager if it was sent from the surgery

The first referral request sent for me was refused, but it was full of mistakes and the whole tone of it was like "Please help get this woman off my back!" I did make an official complaint about that - what if the man did it to someone else?

But then I discovered a lovely doctor who really listened and even admitted that he was rather out of his depth as they don't teach them much about the thyroid in med school xxx

Good advice Jnetti - thanks very much. I'll do that! And thanks for the link below :) xxx

From what that doctor said to me it seems that even a good GP is often put off because so many patients think they know better than the doctor when they don't. And, as he said, articles in the newspaper don't cut it.

So it's understandable when a patient who really does know what they are talking about is ignored or put off by even the best of GPs. He's seen it all before - patients flapping a newspaper cutting in their face or thinking a quick whiz through "Dr Google" makes them an expert.

It's usually a real battle, and a tightrope to walk, to get your doctor onside and building a relationship of mutual respect. But it can happen.

Further to reply to missrees , if anyone wants a bit more encouragement, here's a thread of mine.

Understanding doctors who are willing to admit they don't know it all and are willing to learn, DO exist

Meeting my endo changed my life!! My doctor also helped but it was obvious his hands were tied to a degree, but between the two of them they have given me a new lease of life!

Good for you. Doesn’t it make all the difference. The forum is so very helpful but sometimes we need the GP on board as well to cope .
