Confused re isolating.

Regarding shielding, I've had the letter from the NHS but I don't know why.

I have Hashimoto's and take T3 but nothing else. I am gluten free although Dr would not test, this is going back years. I was expecting to hear from one of the supermarkets about priority slots but have not so I went on the website. The first question is whether I have been told to isolate by my GP or hospital. I have not heard from anyone. Is this normal and what should I do? I don't know why I've had the letter if I'm safe to go out and whether having a priority slot would be of any use.

What does the letter say? Could be the standard letter sent to everyone or are they telling you to isolate.

Hi Jim,the letter tells me to stay indoors until the end of June etc. But I haven't heard from my Gp. I get text messages as well. But how can I say my GP has told me to isolate when I haven't had contact with him in months?

I think the letters may be sent centrally on behalf of the GPs, in your case because you have multiple conditions. See if there’s a contact address / number on the letter.

I don’t think they are sending letters to everyone. Neither my husband nor myself have had letters and he has had cancer. My brother has had one but he has heart trouble, and my friend had one because she has leukaemia.

I was given priority slots by Sainsbury’s after they told me I had been identified as vulnerable. I have no idea why, unless it’s because I’d previously (years ago) ordered online and maybe my age is down in Nectar or somewhere. It is a complete mystery to me, but I will be glad when I can start shopping at Asda again because Sainsbury’s is costing me between £20-30 more a week to shop with them!

Have you registered on the government site ? If not you won't get any help with food boxes or delivery slots.Someone from the NHS called me to check I had got the letter and registered but I have the letter for other conditions not thyroid.

I read something a couple of days ago that there have been about 100,000 of these letters sent out in error.

Do you have any other conditions at all? Anything that could be on your medical record that triggered the letter? If all you have is Hashi's then I would imagine you have been sent the letter in error. However, you could contact your GP surgery to discuss this.

Apparently - can't find link right now - the NHS say that they sent out something like 100,000 letters incorrectly to the wrong people - this might be it: distincttoday.net/2020/05/0...

Myself and my sister both got sent these letters from our surgery saying ' the NHS has identified that we or someone in our households are at severe risk of illness if we catch Covid 19, because of underlying conditions' four pages of generic guidance, but not identifying our own reason of risk!!!

Two days I received a text from surgery saying 'this letter was sent in error. Please disregard and destroy this letter.'

Seven days later my sister received exactly the same text.

It would appear that many received these letters, and I imagine many people were unduly extra worried.

Hi Marz, I didn't do anything about the letter. I have enough trouble with my surgery (re T3) Sainsburies won't deliver, shame as that was my weekly shopping store. We've had Asda click and collect. so not starved but limited on the G/F products I would usually buy.

Thanks for asking, hope you are keeping ok.
