The online pharmacy ECHO sent me the brand TEVA 100mg. I suffered nagging low level headaches, behind the eyes and the back of the neck. My ankles swelled up and I was getting a fluttering in my chest. Aching joints at the fibromyalgia points on the body. Initially I thought it was my supplements Metabiotics liquid B12 etc, I stopped all supplements but this failed to work...well some symptoms went away....the headaches and some fibromyalgia points got slightly better. I called Metabiotics and the woman said it is a natural product and should not cause any adverse effects, she checked all my medications and told me there should not be a reaction. Then she asked me has the brand of any of your medications changed in the last month. YES, I am usually given Northstar or Almus Levothyroxine but I was recently sent TEVA which I have never taken before. I decided to check the list of ingredients and one ingredient stood out which was not in the other 2 brands....MANNITOL! Common Side Effects of Mannitol

are: Headache or dizziness. nausea and vomiting, thirst, dehydration, and frequent urination, racing heartbeat, low blood pressure, rash or hives, blurry vision, altered levels of sodium, potassium, and chloride in the body and acidity in the body; the latter is what probably caused the fibromyalgia symptoms. I informed my GP and was told they could not recommend a different brand due to Covid-19 and possible sourcing problems. I contacted Echo and they added a note to my medication info. this week I received NORTHSTAR Levothyroxine and everything went back to normal after a few days including my mood which I had not really thought about but that could be because I am now back on the B12 supplement. Just as a note the brand TEVA has a history and the UK government suspended their license in 2012, they got it back by reformulating the medication and taking out Lactose.

Yes, it's been known for a long time that the new formulation Teva has caused many and varied adverse reactions for people, and it was very likely the Mannitol. Same as the reformulated Levothyrox in France which resulted in patients rebelling and the French government directing Merck to bring back the old version which they did under the name of Euthyrox - this was about 3 years ago.

Be aware that Northstar, although rebranded Accord/Actavis for their 50mcg and 100mcg tablets, is actually Teva for their 25mcg tablets.

Teva poll

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Thousands of patients do NOT get on well with Teva brand of Levothyroxine.

Yes Teva contains mannitol as a filler, which seems to be possible cause of problems.

bmj.com/content/360/bmj.k71...

Lactose and mannitol provide different nutrients to gut flora.

Teva is the only brand that makes 75mcg tablet. So if avoiding Teva for 75mcg dose ask for 25mcg to add to 50mcg or just extra 50mcg tablets to cut in half

No, Armour Thyroid is a desiccated thyroid product.

This discussion is primarily about Teva levothyroxine - as dispensed in the UK.

Hope you are ok now as my self and daughter took this Teva in 2018 and still having bad side effects doctor doesn’t know when wee will get back to normal if ever as he says not to Time watch as he can’t tell us when we will be back to normal if ever we had all the things you had we also had severe dehydration that probably caused a lot of the problems this I think was due to mannitol.

Please be careful.

50 and 100 microgram Northstar levothyroxine tablets are manufactured by Accord and are identical to the Accord product.

25 microgram Northstar levothyroxine tablets are manufactured by Teva and are identical to the Teva product.
