My thyroid was removed in 1993. Read a book "Stop the Thyroid Madness" by Janie A. Bowthorpe, M.E.D. It connected fibromyalgia and fatigue with treating thyroid issues with Thyroxine and other brand names of this medication. I have fibro with a lot of daily pain. The book suggested that treatment around the 1950's was successfully done by giving desiccated thyroid from cows. Then the medication companies stepped in and pushed doctors to use their products. But these meds do not contain both T3 and T4. Yesterday I started taking Raw Thyroid from Natural Sources.
The dose on the bottle is one tablet daily following a meal.
I have read some reviews online where some people take 3 tablets daily.
If anyone could please share their experience with Raw Thyroid and the dose they take. Thanking you in advance. Stay safe during this pandemic.

Hi Pixipot. They use bovine which I read was a good option. Raw Thyroid from Natural Sources product range was the only one I found online to buy in Australia.
Ive heard they are using material from pigs to make thyroid meds with seemingly good results but something I r'e'd from the bible stops me from trying this.
I am a Christian. Very familiar with the bible. Are you referring to God forbidding the Israelites to eat pig? I dont like to eat pig as I think God had a good reason to forbid it. Though we are not under the law now and can eat what we like.
The Raw Thyroid I purchased uses bovine not pig. I started taking one a day, increased to 3 then knocked it back to two. Taking it after a meal as instructed on the bottle. My fibro pain improved dramatically by the third day. I went down to one a day and fibro pain back again today. Today I decided to go back to 2 a day. Tonight the fibro pain is getting worse. Will have to wait for the raw thyroid to kick in again to see the pain improve. This shows me that the raw thyroid does help the fibro pain. The fibro pain is normally so bad not even strong pain medication like 100mg Palexia SR did nothing to ease the all over body pain. My clothes hurt my skin. I had relief for the first time since the flare up 2 months ago. This brand is the only one I can buy in Australia.
Welcome to Thyroid UK ! We have spoken before on the Fibro Forum when we discussed thyroid. That was before I was restricted for ensuring people had the correct thyroid testing rather than just the TSH.
Am afraid I do not have any experience with bovine supplements - but am sure someone will be along soon to help.
Fibro pain can be linked to low in range T3 - am wondering if you have any up to date results with ranges you could share. TSH - FT4 - FT3 .
It would be difficult to suggest a supplement dose without your results.
Also testing B12 - Folate - Ferritin - VitD can be revealing. If low in range your thyroid hormones will not work well - the ones you take and the ones you produce. Treating the thyroid is rather like being an artist - you need to prepare the canvas well before adding the main event 🥰
Love your avatar - I am a fan and am about to buy a print of Frida ...
Did you know your VitD level before supplementing ? How much are you taking ? Are you taking important co-factors with VitD ? - Magnesium and VitK2-MK7.
If you look around the Forum you will see asking for results is the norm. It could be you would be better to add T3 to your Levo/T4. We always suggest obtaining your test results so you can monitor your own health progress and check what has been missed !
I need a new blood test. We are in self isolation thanks to covid-19. Will do one asap. How do I add T3? I take 100mg thyroxine. GP wants me on a combo of 100mg M-F. 75mg Sat & Sun. I felt worse on lower dose. Self medicated and take 100mg daily and I felt better. Last blood results came back a little lower than should be even though I stayed in 100mg. GP was ok with the lower level but I am not happy to accept this lower range as it must be contributing to my terrible health problems. GP's are like sliding doors, in and out in 5 min and can't be bothered to follow thru. So I am self medicating thru desperation.
The problem - I think - is that your Doc is meddling with your dose based on the TSH result - which is completely wrong as it is not a Thyroid hormone but a Pituitary hormone. The T3 is the most important test as it is the Active hormone needed in every cell of your body. You are taking a small dose of T4 which must convert into T3. It will not do this with low levels of B12 - Folate - Ferritin - VitD.
Good that you have increased your own dose if that is where you feel better. It could be that you could take the supplement in addition to your T4. Start low and slow ...
Thousands of us here test privately and self-medicate in order to find wellness. I have been T3 only for 6 years. You will receive great advice and support here so keep asking questions. This forum is usually very busy and exchanging experiences and knowledge is fine - it's how we all learn 🌟
Thanks for the info on all the vitamins needed to convert to T3. Makes sense now how a b12 injection boosted my energy levels.
You are only taking T3. Could you tell me what you are taking to get the T3. I am having trouble getting my head around the T3 and T4. Another problem I have is this terrible brain fog.
Yes many of us are T3 only - but it is so difficult to find. Again you would need to know your results - just to be on the safe side - too much T3 not good either - that's why we request members to post results.
You can click onto my username and read my Bio - as you can others ! I started out on T4 after a diagnosis of Hashimotos in 2005. Was diagnosed with Fibro in 2000 ! But hey presto once optimally treated for the thyroid and nutrient levels were good I began to heal.
I started out on T4 and then a streadsheet of my results showed my Greek GP that I was not converting the inactive T4 into the Active T3. She gave me a prescription. I was able to buy it OTC at the time and then it became prescription only.
Request all your test results from your Surgery - in the UK you are legally entitled to them. Do you have Private Testing labs in Oz ?
Once it has been established you need T3 - people will suggest sources by a PM as we do not publish sources on the open Forum,
If you are having B12 injections it is important to take B9 - also called Folic Acid or Folate. The two work together in an important way in the body. Taking a GOOD B C omplex may fit the bill - keeping all the B Vitamins in balance. How often do you have injections ? I self-inject weekly !
No, don't know vitamin d3 levels. Was taking 1000iu but have started taking 5000iu every 2 to 3 days. Added b12, zinc, and C supplements since covid-19. Ran out of magnesium.
I have also tried other brands of bovine thyroid and they made me hypo (Thyrogold, Thyrovanz.) I would advise against trying Thyrogold, though, because it has Coleus Forskohlii as an active ingredient which can be very misleading as it is a popular herb for weight loss and it can make the heart racy.
*edit: if you are really wanting to try bovine thyroid powder, I would recommend the Thyrovanz or Metavive brands as they seem more legit.
