Hypo and bloods

I’ve just had recent bloods done. I’m medicated at 150mcg per day. The results of my bloods are as follows:

TSH- 17.3. 0.27 - 4.2 R

FREE T3 3.5. 3.1 - 6.8 R

FREE THYROXINE 15.6

12 - 22 R

I’m obviously still hypo, which explains why I feel 💩. Im looking to optimise this and am see Dr (removed by Admin) next week.

Your dose is obviously not optimal (and am assuming you are taking only levothyroxine) for your TSH to be 17.3. Your FT3 is too low and FT4. Maybe ask doctor if he will prescribe a T3/T4 combination. The aim is a TSH of 1 or lower and both Frees should be

Did you have the blood test at the earliest possible, basting (you can drink water) and allow agap of 24 hours between last dose of thyroid hormones and the test and take it towards the upper part of the ranges.

I hope the doctor will increase your dose.

Thanks for your reply. I’m only taking Levo. I had bloods done first thing in the morning and with a gap of 24hrs after last dose of levothyroxine.

Feb last year, my TSH was 76 and then it went up to about 106 last March. By July, it had settled to around 5 and then by December, it was 4.49. Now it’s high again.

Today, My GP has increased my Levo dose to 175mcg.

I’ve got a consultation with Dr (name removed by admin) on Wednesday so hopefully, he’ll help more.

See from your helpful profile that you are dairy intolerant

Are you on lactose free levothyroxine?

Common when dairy intolerant to need higher dose of levothyroxine than is typical

Lactose intolerance is very common with Hashimoto's

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/240...

Lactose intolerance was diagnosed in 75.9 % of the patients with HT

read.qxmd.com/read/24796930...

These findings show that lactose intolerance significantly increased the need for oral T4 in hypothyroid patients.

I’m not fully lactose intolerant as I can tolerate goats dairy, but not cows dairy. Would this account for a rise in TSH?

Yes, pretty likely

Which brand of levothyroxine are you currently taking

North Star/Actavis. I don’t eat anything with lactose anyway. Thanks.

Both these contain lactose...

Suggest you try Teva or Aristo ....both are lactose free

Liquid levothyroxine may work better. But it’s expensive so they don’t like to offer it
