Liothyronine 10mcg a day

Hello, I finally got an endo to recommend that I'm prescribed T3. Whoop. But it's only 10mcg a day and whilst it seemed to help for a few days, I now don't feel as good. It's been about 6 weeks.

Before getting the T3, I was taking two 150mg Thyrogold tablets a day that I bought on the internet on top of my T4 (175mcg, which I don't believe ever did anything, as I never had any change in symptoms. If I took significantly more T4, nothing happened). I told the endo all of this and she agreed to give me the T3.

Taking the Thyrogold made a massive difference to me. I finally lost a little weight, the constipation eased and my skin wasn't so dry. Now I've gained back the weight I lost and am back to square one. I feel very frustrated and sad.

I've tried for the last 2 weeks taking 20mcg of T3 but it doesn't seem to have had any impact. Obviously I'm now going to run out in half the time and will have to tell the doctor.

Can anyone advise what dose of T3 might be successful? Would Armour Thyroid be better?

I can't afford to buy Thyrogold long term.

Thank you.

Kate.

Kitty t3 is not an instant fix. My endo has given me a trial of 6 months to a year as she reckons it will take at least that for my body to adjust and for medication doses to be adjusted.

It is a case of making changes to either lio or levo then waiting 8 weeks before doing bloods. Then reassessing symptoms and blood results and continuing with the process until you feel well.

It is not only a question of what lio dose would be effective but also what levo dose would be effective in combination. You need to consider both.

If you are getting your t3 on the NHS it may be worth persevering and getting a dose increase officially to 20mcg. Then seeing where you are result wise in 8 weeks. You are very unlikely to get ndt/ armour on the NHS as they are not licensed in the UK.

Hm, that would make sense but for the fact that I saw a major improvement after about 4-6 weeks on the other stuff and all that has been undone in the same amount of time on synthetic T4/T3 combo. The NHS can prescribe NDT, my GP has already said he would look at it as it's cheaper than T3.

Do you have thyroid blood results to go on. I think it’d be good to check your bloods before any changes to see what if anything needs altering in your dose.

Hi .

Do you take all in one go ? I am on the same T3 and was advised to take 5mcg twice a day ?

I was on Armour, even prescribed until local health authorities stopped my

GP from giving it to me.

I personally prefer Armour but too expensive. Persevere a bit longer. Hope you feel better soon .

Thank you, I'll try and get my results but our surgery is being pretty militant about everything at the moment! Last time I spoke to a doctor (one of the ones with zero knowledge about thyroid and just kept telling me I'm over medicated) he told me my results were in the middle of the range (not high), except my TSH, which was suppressed, so he was talking about reducing my medication. I'll definitely avoid this doctor, there's a much better one at the surgery.
